Are Martin and Layton insensitive to Canada’s religious peoples?

Stephen Harper has released two press releases wishing both Canada’s Jewish and Muslim communities a happy Rosh Hashanah and Ramadan, respectively.

Both Rosh Hashanah and Ramadan began yesterday.

Yet, both Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin and NDP leader Jack Layton have not made statements giving these two peoples good wishes on these occasions.

Are the Liberals and NDP ignorant of people of faith? Is Stephen Harper the only leader that is cognizant of cultural diversity in this country?

MacKay to stay

This one just off the wire:

Peter MacKay will stay in federal politics rather than run for the leadership of the Nova Scotia Progressive conservative Party, a highly-placed source says.

Mr. MacKay, deputy leader of the federal Conservatives, told Conservative Leader Stephen Harper that he was staying and has always told Mr. Harper that was his preference, the source says.

His decision will be announced Wednesday to the Conservative caucus meeting before it is announced publicly.

Well this may end a few news cycles of speculation. It seemed that MacKay was always leaning towards staying, however, the uncertainty brought him a lot of attention and positive press. If this report is true, MacKay has spoiled the forcasts of a few pundits who predicted his departure including Greg Weston of Sun media and Craig Oliver of CTV.

Blogging Tories video

filmstrip.jpgI’ve been playing around with some video capturing and video editing software lately. Inspired by BBS’s recent great work, I put together a video on Liberal minister John McCallum’s dithering and claims of some sort of law that owes Liberal cronies a severance payment once they quit after being caught in the act of corruption (alleged). Never heard of that law? Don’t worry, nobody else has either.

You can download the video here. Share it with your friends by emailing them a link to this blog entry.
