New Tecumseth--Gwillimbury

New Tecumseth--Gwillimbury is a newly created riding that came into effect for the 2025 federal election following the 2022 redistribution. Spanning 717 square kilometres of southern Simcoe County and northern York Region, it incorporates the towns of New Tecumseth and Bradford West Gwillimbury along with most of East Gwillimbury. Conservative Scot Davidson, who had represented the predecessor riding of York--Simcoe since winning a by-election in 2019, won a commanding victory for his third consecutive term.

Candidates

Scot Davidson (Conservative) -- Born in Georgina, Ontario, Davidson holds an economics degree from York University. A serial entrepreneur, he returned to the Georgina area after university to open a coffee shop, later launching ventures including a bar and Fish Crisp, a fish coating product sold at retailers like Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, and Walmart across North America. He used the proceeds to purchase a marina and ice-fishing operation. First elected to Parliament in a 2019 by-election to replace the retiring Peter Van Loan, Davidson has centred his political career on small business advocacy.

Mike Hanrahan (Liberal) -- A first-time candidate, Hanrahan has lived in the New Tecumseth area for close to fifteen years. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where he was an Academic All-American student-athlete, and his studies focused on the intersection of government, economics, and environmental policy. He campaigned on affordability and economic sustainability.

Nancy Morrison (NDP) -- Morrison carried the NDP banner in the riding, advocating for stronger public services and worker protections.

Callum McKinnon (Green Party) -- McKinnon represented the Green Party, focusing on environmental stewardship and sustainable rural development.

Paul Montague (People's Party - PPC) -- Montague ran for the People's Party on a platform of reduced government spending and lower immigration.

About the Riding

The riding straddles the boundary between the rapidly suburbanizing northern edge of the GTA and the agricultural heartland of southern Simcoe County. Bradford West Gwillimbury, situated on the Holland River, is one of Ontario's fastest-growing communities, fuelled by families seeking affordable housing within commuting distance of Toronto. The Holland Marsh, a major agricultural zone sometimes called Ontario's vegetable capital, lies at the riding's core and produces a significant share of the province's carrots, onions, and other root vegetables.

New Tecumseth encompasses the towns of Alliston, Beeton, and Tottenham, which retain their small-town character even as new residential subdivisions expand outward. East Gwillimbury includes communities like Holland Landing, Queensville, and Sharon, many of which are experiencing rapid growth as the GTA sprawls northward.

Local concerns in 2025 centred on managing growth -- residents worried about infrastructure keeping pace with housing development, traffic congestion on corridors like Highway 400 and Highway 89, and the preservation of agricultural land. Davidson's deep roots in the area and his small-business credentials gave him a strong personal brand, and he won with roughly sixty percent of the vote, well ahead of Hanrahan's Liberal challenge.
