King--Vaughan

King--Vaughan is a federal electoral district in York Region, north of Toronto, encompassing the Township of King and northern portions of the City of Vaughan. The riding is characterized by affluent suburban communities, a mix of established neighbourhoods and newer developments, and a diverse population reflecting the Greater Toronto Area's multicultural character. Conservative Anna Roberts won a commanding re-election victory in 2025, securing roughly two-thirds of the vote.

Candidates

Anna Roberts (Conservative) * The daughter of Italian immigrants, Roberts worked for over thirty years in the banking industry, where she received a Branch Manager of the Year award. She has spent more than three decades volunteering with organizations including the Salvation Army, the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, and the King City Lodge Nursing Home. First elected in the 2021 federal election, she served in the Conservative shadow cabinet as Shadow Minister for Seniors and the Status of Women during the 44th Parliament.

Mubarak Ahmed (Liberal) Ahmed is a dental surgeon, family man, and business owner who ran as the Liberal candidate in King--Vaughan.

Samantha Sanchez (NDP) Sanchez carried the NDP banner in the riding.

Ann Raney (Green Party) Raney ran as the Green Party candidate in King--Vaughan.

Vageesh Sabharwal (People's Party - PPC) Sabharwal ran as the People's Party candidate in the riding.

About the Riding

King--Vaughan sits at the suburban-rural fringe of the Greater Toronto Area. The Township of King retains a more pastoral character, with horse farms, conservation areas, and the village of Schomberg, while the Vaughan portion of the riding includes rapidly growing communities such as Kleinburg and the northern reaches of Maple and Woodbridge. The riding's population has grown significantly through new residential development, attracting young families and new Canadians.

York Region as a whole is one of Canada's most diverse municipalities, and King--Vaughan reflects this with substantial Italian-Canadian, South Asian, and East Asian communities. The area's economy is driven by a mix of small business, professional services, and proximity to Toronto's employment centres. Many residents commute south to Toronto for work, making transportation infrastructure and GO Transit service important local issues.

The 2025 campaign in King--Vaughan was marked by an incident in which an Elections Canada worker was removed from an advance polling station after allegations of voter interference. Despite this controversy, the race itself was never in serious doubt. Roberts's strong community ties, her advocacy for seniors' issues, and the riding's conservative-leaning demographics combined to deliver a decisive result.
