Vaughan--Woodbridge

Vaughan--Woodbridge is a suburban riding in York Region, north of Toronto, anchored by the communities of Woodbridge and parts of Vaughan. The riding has one of the highest concentrations of Italian Canadians in the country, with nearly half of residents claiming Italian heritage. Long a reliable Liberal seat, the riding swung decisively to the Conservatives in 2025, reflecting a broader blue wave that swept across the suburban 905 belt surrounding Toronto.

Candidates

Michael Guglielmin (Conservative) -- Born and raised in Woodbridge, Guglielmin is a graduate of Humber College and York University, where he earned a degree in political science summa cum laude. He spent over two decades in the steel industry as Vice President of Operations at Norbel Metal Services. Active in Conservative politics as a riding president and deputy campaign manager, he brought a combination of private-sector experience and party organizing to his successful campaign.

Francesco Sorbara (Liberal) -- The incumbent MP since 2015, Sorbara grew up in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, before building a career in global financial markets at institutions including JPMorgan Chase and the Bank of Nova Scotia. He holds a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Toronto and a CFA designation. During his time in Parliament, he served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministers of Finance and National Revenue.

Ali Bahman (NDP) -- A federal public servant with over a decade of experience, Bahman has held roles including Senior Analyst and Trade Officer at Global Affairs Canada. He campaigned on tackling unaffordable housing, the rising cost of living, and widening inequality.

About the Riding

Vaughan--Woodbridge sits at the intersection of suburban growth and deep-rooted community identity. The area developed rapidly from the 1960s onward as waves of Italian immigrants settled in Woodbridge, establishing businesses, churches, and social clubs that continue to define the neighbourhood's character. Today the riding is increasingly diverse, with growing South Asian, East Asian, and Latin American populations alongside its Italian-Canadian core.

The riding's economy is driven by a mix of construction, manufacturing, and small business, with many residents commuting south into Toronto for work. Infrastructure and transit have been persistent local issues, particularly as population growth has strained roads and highways. The extension of the TTC subway to Vaughan Metropolitan Centre brought rapid transit to the area, but many parts of the riding remain car-dependent.

In the 2025 campaign, affordability and the cost of living dominated local conversations, as housing prices in the region remained among the highest in the country. The Conservative message on economic management resonated strongly in a riding that had grown frustrated with the incumbent Liberal government.
