Sturgeon River—Parkland

Sturgeon River—Parkland arcs around Edmonton's western and northwestern perimeter, taking in a broad swath of communities in the capital region. The riding encompasses Parkland County, Sturgeon County, and Lac Ste. Anne County, along with the cities and towns of Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Morinville, Gibbons, Redwater, and Legal. First Nations communities including Alexander First Nation and Enoch Cree Nation also fall within the constituency.

Candidates

Dane Lloyd (Conservative) — Born in St. Albert and raised on a family farm near Spruce Grove, Lloyd graduated from Edmonton Christian High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Trinity Western University. He worked as an assistant to MP Michael Cooper before winning a 2017 by-election to replace Rona Ambrose, who had resigned. He also held a commission as an infantry officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Guy Desforges (NDP) — President of Unifor Local 445 in Edmonton, Desforges had been with the union since 1987 after being hired at Saputo Dairy Products. He had also run as the NDP candidate in the riding in 2015.

Ronald Brochu (Liberal) — An accountant who had worked for the Alberta Treasury Board and Finance as a senior tax auditor, as well as for the Canada Revenue Agency and Farm Credit Canada as a credit adviser. He had previously run provincially for the Liberal Party in Edmonton—Gold Bar in 2015 and Drayton Valley—Devon in 2019.

Cass Romyn (Green Party), Tyler Beauchamp (People's Party), and Ernest Chauvet (Christian Heritage Party) also sought election.

About the Riding

Sturgeon River—Parkland is defined by the interplay between Edmonton's suburban expansion and the agricultural and resource economy of the surrounding counties. Spruce Grove (population roughly 35,000) and Stony Plain (about 17,500) are among the Edmonton region's fastest-growing bedroom communities, situated along Highway 16 west of the capital. Both offer a mix of retail, light industrial, and service-sector employment, though many residents commute daily into Edmonton. Morinville, to the north, is a historically francophone community tracing its roots to Quebec and French-Canadian Métis settlers.

Agriculture remains a pillar of the rural economy. Parkland County and Sturgeon County are among the Edmonton region's most productive farming areas, with grain, canola, cattle, and mixed farming operations spread across the rolling landscape of the aspen parkland. Oil and gas activity — well sites, pipelines, and service companies — provides additional employment, particularly in Lac Ste. Anne County, where smaller operators had scaled back following the energy downturn. Pipeline politics and resource development policy were prominent issues for many constituents, who viewed federal energy and environmental regulations as directly affecting local livelihoods. Infrastructure funding for the riding's rapidly expanding municipalities was another recurring concern.
