Edmonton West takes in the western swath of the city, running from Stony Plain Road and the older Jasper Place neighbourhoods westward through newer suburban developments near the Anthony Henday ring road. The riding's most prominent landmark is West Edmonton Mall, one of the largest shopping and entertainment complexes in North America, which anchors the local retail economy and draws visitors from across western Canada. The constituency was re-created in the 2012 redistribution from parts of the former Edmonton--Spruce Grove and Edmonton Centre.

About the Riding
Edmonton West combines older, established communities in its eastern half with newer suburban developments to the west. The Jasper Place area, including West Jasper Place and surrounding neighbourhoods, retains a mid-century suburban character with modest homes built in the 1950s and 1960s on the lands of the former Town of Jasper Place, which amalgamated with Edmonton in 1964. Stony Plain Road, the area's main commercial corridor, had undergone streetscaping and revitalization efforts with murals, plaza improvements, and initiatives to attract new businesses.
Farther west, communities like Lewis Estates, Cameron Heights, and Donsdale feature larger, newer homes and a more affluent demographic. The contrast between the riding's eastern and western halves produces a constituency with a wider range of household incomes and housing conditions than many Edmonton ridings.
West Edmonton Mall, with more than 800 stores, an indoor waterpark, an amusement park, and an ice rink, generates thousands of retail, hospitality, and entertainment jobs. The Misericordia Community Hospital, located in the West Meadowlark Park neighbourhood, provides healthcare services and is another significant local employer. Transit connections from the riding's western suburbs to LRT stations and the downtown core were limited in 2019, and many residents relied on private vehicles for their commute. The economic slowdown in the energy sector, housing affordability, and support for small businesses along Stony Plain Road were key issues during the campaign.
