Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan was created by the 2012 redistribution, uniting the large suburban community of Sherwood Park with the city of Fort Saskatchewan and surrounding portions of Strathcona County and Sturgeon County northeast of Edmonton. The riding sits on the eastern fringe of the Edmonton metropolitan area, straddling the North Saskatchewan River valley.
Candidates
Garnett Genuis (Conservative) — Raised in Strathcona County, Genuis earned a bachelor's degree in public affairs and policy management from Carleton University and a master's in public policy from the London School of Economics. He had worked as a policy adviser on the staff of Minister Rona Ambrose and as an assistant in the office of Prime Minister Stephen Harper before moving to the private sector as vice president of an opinion research firm. He announced his candidacy in March 2014 and won the Conservative nomination that November.
