Moose Jaw—Lake Centre—Lanigan

Moose Jaw—Lake Centre—Lanigan is a sprawling riding that covers much of the territory between Regina and Saskatoon, taking in the city of Moose Jaw and extending across the agricultural heartland of southern Saskatchewan. The riding encompasses roughly 39,000 square kilometres and includes communities such as Lumsden, Outlook, Dundurn, Watrous, Lanigan, Leroy, and Earl Grey, along with several resort areas around Last Mountain Lake and Buffalo Pound Provincial Park.

Candidates

Fraser Tolmie (Conservative) is a first-generation Canadian whose parents emigrated from Scotland. A former Royal Canadian Air Force officer who holds a degree in War Studies from King's College London, Tolmie served as a city councillor in Moose Jaw from 2009 to 2012 and then as mayor from 2016 until his resignation in 2021 to run federally. He was first elected to Parliament in 2021 and has served as deputy shadow minister for veterans affairs.

Tabitha Mukamusoni (Liberal) is originally from Burundi and has lived in Saskatchewan since 2016, based in Gravelbourg with her family. A former journalist, she has worked with the Association Communautaire Fransaskoise de Gravelbourg, helping newcomers integrate into rural communities. Her campaign focused on job creation, small business support, and rural development.

Britt Baumann (NDP) is a military veteran who served in the Canadian Armed Forces as a finance clerk. She holds a PhD in public policy from the University of Saskatchewan and an MA in sociology from Acadia University. Her campaign emphasized housing, economic security, and support for military families.

Chey Craik (People's Party) ran as the PPC candidate in the riding.

Mike Gardiner (Green Party) ran as the Green Party candidate in the riding.

About the Riding

The riding sits at the heart of one of the largest potash deposits in the world, and mining is a major economic driver. Lanigan and the surrounding area are home to some of the world's largest potash operations, and the mineral—used primarily as agricultural fertilizer—is a critical Canadian export. Agriculture, including grain and livestock production, forms the other economic pillar, with the open prairie landscape supporting large-scale farming operations.

Moose Jaw, the riding's largest city with a population of roughly 34,000, has a storied history tied to the Canadian Pacific Railway and serves as a regional centre for government services, healthcare, and tourism. The city is home to 15 Wing Moose Jaw, a Canadian Forces base that trains military pilots from Canada and allied nations through the NATO Flying Training in Canada program, making defence spending a tangible local economic factor.

Heading into the 2025 election, the threat of U.S. tariffs on potash exports and the broader trade war weighed heavily on voters in a riding deeply connected to resource extraction and agriculture. Affordability, rural healthcare, and the future of the carbon tax were also prominent campaign issues.
