Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek

Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek stretches across central Saskatchewan, taking in the fast-growing bedroom communities west of Saskatoon along with a vast rural hinterland of small towns and farming communities. The riding extends from the western edge of Saskatoon, including the cities of Warman and Martensville, northward to Rosthern and Leask, and eastward through Humboldt and the surrounding agricultural districts. Named for the historic Carlton Trail—the 1,400-kilometre overland route that once connected Fort Garry near Winnipeg to Fort Edmonton—and Eagle Creek, a treed valley that gives its name to a local rural municipality and regional park.

Candidates

Kelly Block (Conservative) was first elected in the former Saskatoon—Rosetown—Biggar riding in 2008 and has represented Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek since the riding's creation in 2015. Before entering federal politics, Block served two terms as mayor of Waldheim, a small town north of Saskatoon.

Katelyn Zimmer (Liberal) is a second-generation veterinarian and graduate of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine who has worked in mixed and small animal practice. This is her second federal campaign, having previously run in Moose Jaw—Lake Centre—Lanigan in 2021.

Cheryl Loadman (NDP) is an entrepreneur, educator, and faculty member at the University of Saskatchewan's Edwards School of Business, where she teaches international business and public policy. She also runs two businesses.

About the Riding

Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek is one of Saskatchewan's most agriculturally productive districts, with grain, canola, and livestock operations forming the economic backbone of the rural portions. The riding sits within Saskatchewan's so-called tornado alley, and its landscape is dotted with Hutterite colonies where German is widely spoken.

The suburban communities of Warman and Martensville, just north of Saskatoon, have experienced explosive population growth over the past two decades, transforming from small towns into commuter cities. This growth has placed pressure on transportation infrastructure, schools, and municipal services, even as the broader riding retains its rural and small-town character.

Humboldt, the largest town in the eastern portion of the riding, serves as a regional hub and gained national attention in 2018 following the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. The town's economy is supported by agriculture, potash mining in the surrounding area, and the services sector. Heading into the 2025 election, affordability, the carbon tax, and the impact of U.S. trade tensions on prairie agriculture were central concerns for voters across the riding.
