The riding is home to numerous First Nations, including Thunderchild, Red Pheasant, Sweetgrass, and Mosquito First Nations, as well as Metis communities.

About the Riding

The local economy is anchored by agriculture and the oil and gas sector, with Lloydminster straddling the Alberta border and serving as a hub for heavy oil production. North Battleford is the regional service centre for the surrounding agricultural communities, while Meadow Lake's economy is tied to forestry and the boreal forest industry, including lumber and oriented strand board production.

The riding has a significant Indigenous population, with many First Nations communities facing challenges around housing, clean water, and healthcare access. Mental health services, particularly in North Battleford—which is home to the Saskatchewan Hospital—have been a longstanding concern.

Heading into the 2025 election, the threat of U.S. tariffs on Canadian energy and agricultural exports was a pressing issue for the riding's oil producers and grain farmers. Affordability, trade diversification, and rural healthcare access dominated the campaign, reflecting the economic anxieties of a resource-dependent region caught between volatile commodity markets and escalating trade tensions with the United States.
