Brampton--Chinguacousy Park

Brampton--Chinguacousy Park is a newly created federal riding established through the 2022 redistribution, carved out of parts of the former Brampton Centre and Brampton North to accommodate the city's rapid population growth. With a population exceeding 115,000, it is one of the most populous federal electoral districts in Ontario. The riding is named after Chinguacousy Park, a popular recreation area in central Brampton, and encompasses a dense suburban landscape of residential subdivisions, shopping plazas, and community centres.

Candidates

Shafqat Ali (Liberal)* is the incumbent, first elected in 2021 to represent Brampton Centre before transitioning to this newly created riding following redistribution. An entrepreneur and community advocate, Ali immigrated to Canada and built a career in real estate. For nearly two decades, he volunteered with youth sports programs, organized cultural festivals, and led fundraising efforts for local hospitals, food banks, and charitable organizations. He is credited with leading the campaign to establish the cricket pitch on White Clover Way in Mississauga. Ali first engaged with the Liberal Party in the early 2000s while living in Mississauga.

Tim Iqbal (Conservative) won the Conservative Party nomination for this new riding. His campaign included proposals to create nationally recognized professional licenses for doctors, nurses, and early childhood educators, and to halt proposed new labelling and packaging requirements for food.

Teresa Yeh (NDP) carried the NDP banner in the riding. She previously ran as the NDP candidate in Brampton North in 2021.

Jayesh Brahmbhatt (People's Party), Mike Dancy (Green Party), and Avi Dhaliwal (Independent) also stood as candidates. Hafiz Muneeb Ahmad (Centrist) rounded out the ballot.

About the Riding

Brampton--Chinguacousy Park is predominantly a Punjabi-English bilingual community, with Punjabi spoken by nearly 16 percent of residents and English by 57 percent. The riding also has significant Urdu, Spanish, Hindi, Tagalog, and Gujarati-speaking populations. Religiously, the community is about 45 percent Christian with substantial Sikh, Hindu, and Muslim populations.

As a newly created riding, Brampton--Chinguacousy Park inherited the challenges facing Brampton as a whole: rapid population growth outpacing infrastructure investment, healthcare access concerns, transit gaps, and housing affordability pressures. The US trade dispute added anxiety in a city with significant employment in manufacturing, logistics, and cross-border commerce. The contest between Ali and Iqbal was competitive, reflecting the broader national tug-of-war between Liberals and Conservatives for suburban seats in the Greater Toronto Area.
