Mississauga--Malton is one of the most diverse ridings in Canada, anchored by the Malton neighbourhood in Mississauga's northeast corner. The riding sits adjacent to Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada's busiest aviation hub, which profoundly shapes the local economy and employment landscape. With over eighty percent of residents identifying as visible minorities and roughly two-thirds of the population of South Asian descent, the riding reflects the waves of immigration that have transformed the western Greater Toronto Area over the past several decades. Liberal incumbent Iqwinder Singh Gaheer secured a second term in the 2025 federal election, maintaining the party's longstanding hold on the seat.
Candidates
Iqwinder Singh Gaheer (Liberal) -- Born in Punjab, India, Gaheer immigrated to Canada with his family in 1999 and grew up in the Brampton area. He earned a business degree from the Schulich School of Business at York University before completing his Juris Doctor at Harvard Law School. Prior to entering politics, he practised commercial litigation at Kirkland & Ellis in New York. First elected in 2021, Gaheer served as chair of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security before Parliament was prorogued in early 2025.
Jaspreet Sandhu (Conservative) -- A federal government employee, Sandhu previously ran for municipal council in Woodstock and served on the board of directors for Woodstock Hospital. She campaigned on affordability and public safety concerns in the riding.
Inderjeetsingh Ailsinghani (NDP) -- The NDP's candidate in Mississauga--Malton, Ailsinghani ran on a platform centred on housing affordability and workers' rights.
Nathan Quinlan (People's Party - PPC) -- Quinlan carried the People's Party banner in the riding, advocating for reduced immigration levels and smaller government.
About the Riding
Malton's proximity to Pearson Airport has long defined the neighbourhood's character. The airport and its surrounding logistics, warehousing, and hospitality industries provide thousands of local jobs, but the area has also dealt with the noise and traffic that come with being next to one of North America's busiest airports. Geographically, Malton sits somewhat apart from the rest of Mississauga, separated by highway corridors and the airport's vast footprint, and its residents have often felt more connected to neighbouring Rexdale in Toronto and southeastern Brampton.
The riding's population is predominantly Punjabi-speaking, and community life revolves around gurdwaras, cultural organizations, and family networks that tie residents to both the local area and the broader South Asian diaspora. Housing affordability has become an increasingly urgent concern, as home prices and rents in the GTA have risen sharply, squeezing the working-class and middle-class families who form the riding's backbone.
In 2025, allegations of irregularities in the Conservative Party's nomination process across several Mississauga ridings generated frustration among local party members and may have dampened the Conservative effort in the area. The Liberals swept all six Mississauga seats, continuing a pattern of dominance in the city that has held through several election cycles.
