Mississauga—Streetsville

Mississauga—Streetsville occupies the northwestern portion of Mississauga, centred on the historic villages of Streetsville and Meadowvale. The riding is bounded by the Credit River and Creditview Road to the east, Highway 403 and Erin Mills Parkway to the south, Britannia Road West and the city's southwestern limit to the west, and the Brampton border to the north. Its neighbourhoods include Streetsville, Meadowvale, Meadowvale Village, and portions of the Credit River corridor.

The 2021 census recorded a population of approximately 113,800. The riding's ethnic composition includes roughly 40 percent White, 25 percent South Asian, 6 percent each Black and Chinese, 6 percent Arab, and 5 percent Filipino. English is the mother tongue for about 52 percent of residents, with Urdu, Arabic, Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog, Polish, and Punjabi all spoken in significant numbers. Immigrants make up close to 47 percent of the population. The average household income of approximately $124,300 makes it one of the more affluent ridings in the Mississauga cluster.

Candidates

Rechie Valdez (Liberal) — Born in Kitwe, Zambia, to overseas Filipino workers, Valdez immigrated to Canada with her family in 1989, settling in the Erin Mills area. She earned a computer science degree from the University of Windsor and spent over a decade in corporate banking before becoming an entrepreneur and published baker. She co-founded a Filipino fusion pastry line that supplied two national Asian grocery chains and appeared on Food Network Canada's The Big Bake. In 2021, she became the first Filipino-Canadian woman elected to the House of Commons.

Jasveen Rattan (Conservative) — Dr. Rattan holds a PhD in Recreation and Leisure Studies from the University of Waterloo. She is a published author and public speaker who campaigned on economic recovery, fiscal responsibility, and community engagement.

Farina Hassan (NDP) — Hassan is the NDP candidate for the riding, focusing her campaign on affordable childcare, pharmacare, and support for immigrant families in the riding's growing communities.

Gurdeep Wolosz (PPC) — Wolosz is the People's Party of Canada candidate, running on the party's platform of reduced government spending and personal liberties.

About the Riding

Streetsville and Meadowvale Village are among the oldest settlements in what is now Mississauga. Streetsville traces its origins to 1819, when survey contractor Timothy Street received permission to build saw and grist mills on the Credit River, attracting settlers who formed a village around the site. The village retains the city's largest concentration of historic buildings along its Queen Street main strip, and its annual Bread and Honey Festival draws thousands of visitors. Meadowvale Village, settled the same year, became Ontario's first Heritage Conservation District in 1980, preserving its 19th-century character.

The modern riding beyond these heritage cores is predominantly suburban, with residential subdivisions developed from the 1970s onward as part of Mississauga's rapid post-war growth. Meadowvale Business Park, in the northern portion of the riding, hosts distribution centres, technology firms, and corporate offices that provide local employment. The Credit River valley runs through the eastern portion of the riding, offering extensive trail networks and green space.

Housing affordability, transit connectivity, and the preservation of heritage character amid intensification were key issues in 2021. The riding's growing South Asian, Arab, and Filipino communities have reshaped local commercial corridors and cultural institutions. Commuter traffic along Highway 403, Erin Mills Parkway, and Britannia Road was a persistent concern for residents dependent on vehicles to reach employment centres across the region. The 2021 contest was an open race following the decision of incumbent Liberal MP Gagan Sikand not to seek re-election after serving since 2015.
