Saskatoon—Grasswood

Saskatoon—Grasswood covers the southeastern quadrant of Saskatchewan's largest city and extends into a band of rural land to the south. Within the city, the riding takes in established neighbourhoods such as Briarwood and Lakeview alongside newer suburban developments like Stonebridge, one of Saskatoon's fastest-growing residential areas through the 2010s. South of the city limits, the landscape opens into grain and oilseed farmland in the Rural Municipality of Corman Park, Saskatchewan's most populous rural municipality.

Candidates

Kevin Waugh (Conservative) — A longtime television sports journalist with CTV Saskatoon, Waugh was one of the best-known media personalities in the city before entering politics. He served as the Ward 9 trustee for the Saskatoon Public School Division from 2006 to 2015 and first won election to Parliament in 2015 after defeating incumbent cabinet minister Lynne Yelich in the Conservative nomination contest for the newly created riding.

Erika Ritchie (NDP) — An environmental engineer and community organizer, Ritchie had spent years advancing climate action, environmental protection, and sustainable resource development through work in the mining and resource sectors. Her campaign focused on environmental policy and sustainable economic development.

Tracy Muggli (Liberal) — A registered social worker and hospital administrator, Muggli had served as director of mental health and addiction services with the Saskatoon Health Region and as executive director of St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. She brought a health-care administration background to her campaign.

Mark Friesen (People's Party) also appeared on the ballot.

About the Riding

The urban portion of Saskatoon—Grasswood reflects the city's sustained southward growth. Stonebridge, which began development in the early 2000s, grew into one of Saskatoon's most populous neighbourhoods with a mix of single-family homes and medium-density housing. Briarwood, with a very high homeownership rate, is one of the more affluent suburban pockets in the city. The South Saskatchewan River forms the riding's western boundary within Saskatoon, and the Meewasin Valley trail system along its banks provides a defining recreational amenity. South of the city, flat open prairie gives way to the coulees and rolling terrain near Blackstrap Lake, where Blackstrap Mountain—a man-made hill built for the 1971 Canada Winter Games—rises 45 metres above the surrounding landscape. Saskatoon's economy is shaped by its role as a centre for potash and uranium mining services, agricultural biotechnology, and health sciences research. Infrastructure investment to keep pace with the city's growth, housing affordability, and support for the mining and agricultural sectors were key issues during the 2019 campaign.
