Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek

Stretching across central Saskatchewan's agricultural heartland, Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek wraps around the city of Saskatoon without including it. The riding runs from the fast-growing commuter towns of Warman and Martensville north of Saskatoon through to the German Catholic community of Humboldt in the east, taking in Rosthern, Wakaw, Clavet, and St. Brieux along the way. Named for the historic fur-trade route that once linked Fort Garry to Fort Edmonton, the district was first contested in 2015 after being assembled from parts of three former ridings.

Candidates

Kelly Block (Conservative) — First elected to Parliament in 2008 in the former Saskatoon—Rosetown—Biggar riding, Block previously served two terms as the first female mayor of Waldheim, Saskatchewan, and chaired the Gabriel Springs Health District before its amalgamation into the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority. She moved to Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek when it was created in 2015 and served as Shadow Minister for Transport during the 42nd Parliament.

Jasmine Calix (NDP) — A civilian employee with the Saskatoon Police Service based in Martensville, Calix worked in community safety through housing and neighbourhood awareness programs. She campaigned on the rising cost of living for middle-class families and advocated for stronger action on climate change and First Nations reconciliation.

Rebecca Malo (Liberal) — Born and raised in Alberta, Malo settled in Warman after living in Yellowknife for eight years and opened a day-care centre in the community. She was active in several civic agencies in Warman and ran on the Liberal platform of affordable housing, improved seniors' care, and expanded skills training.

Dean Gibson (Green Party) — Gibson carried the Green Party banner in a riding where the Conservatives held an overwhelming advantage, bringing the party's environmental platform to rural and suburban Saskatchewan voters.

Cody Payant (People's Party) and Glenn Wright (Independent) also contested the riding.

About the Riding

Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek sits on some of Saskatchewan's most productive black-soil farmland, and agriculture anchors the local economy. Canola, wheat, barley, and pulse crops cover the surrounding prairie, and several Hutterite colonies contribute to the district's agricultural output. Potash mining provides additional employment, connecting the riding to global fertilizer markets. Warman and Martensville, immediately north of Saskatoon, are among the province's fastest-growing communities, attracting young families with affordable housing and short commutes to the city's employers and services. That rapid suburban growth has placed pressure on road infrastructure, schools, and municipal water and sewer systems. Near the riding's southern boundary, Wanuskewin Heritage Park preserves a nationally significant archaeological site where Northern Plains peoples gathered for roughly 6,000 years. Humboldt, the riding's eastern anchor town, is a regional service centre for surrounding farms and communities. Federal issues prominent during the 2019 campaign included the carbon tax, grain transportation logistics, and trade policy affecting Saskatchewan's agricultural exports.
