Saint-Laurent

Saint-Laurent corresponds to the borough of Saint-Laurent in the northwest of the Island of Montreal, covering approximately 43 square kilometres between Highway 40 and the Riviere des Prairies. With a population approaching 100,000, it is among the most linguistically and ethnically diverse federal constituencies in Canada, with significant francophone, anglophone, and allophone populations speaking Arabic, Mandarin, Spanish, and many other languages.

Candidates

Emmanuella Lambropoulos (Liberal) — Born in 1990 and raised in Saint-Laurent, Lambropoulos attended local schools before earning a Bachelor of Education from McGill University in 2013, where she served as president of the Hellenic Students Association. She taught French and history at Rosemount High School before entering politics. In 2017, she won the Liberal nomination in an upset and was elected to the House of Commons in a by-election to succeed Stephane Dion, becoming one of the youngest members of the Quebec caucus.

Richard Serour (Conservative) — A Saint-Laurent resident of more than forty years, Serour served as president and CEO of the Canadian Immigration Council, helping people navigate the immigration process. He also worked as a radio host on CJAD and as an opinion writer for The Suburban newspaper. He speaks English, French, Arabic, and Hebrew.

Miranda Gallo (NDP) — A first-time candidate, Gallo holds a degree in World Islamic and Middle East Studies from McGill University and a degree in Indigenous Policies from Carleton University. She worked as an analyst for Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East.

Therese Miljours (Bloc Quebecois) — Miljours represented the Bloc in a constituency where the party's sovereigntist message faced the challenge of a heavily immigrant and federalist-leaning electorate.

Georgia Kokotsis (Green Party), Christopher Mikus (People's Party), and Ginette Boutet (ML) also contested the seat.

About the Riding

Saint-Laurent is one of the most significant industrial and employment centres on the Island of Montreal. The borough's vast industrial parks host the headquarters or major facilities of aerospace companies including Bombardier Aerospace, along with hundreds of firms in pharmaceuticals, electronics, and food processing. The aerospace cluster contributes to Montreal's standing as one of the world's leading aerospace hubs, employing thousands across engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance operations.

Nearly half the borough's population was born outside Canada, reflecting successive waves of immigration from Greece, Lebanon, Haiti, North Africa, South Asia, and China. French-language integration services are in high demand, and affordable housing emerged as an increasingly pressing concern. Saint-Laurent had been a Liberal stronghold for decades, held continuously by the party since the riding's creation, and the margin of victory in successive elections was typically among the widest in Quebec.
