About the Riding

Longueuil—Charles-LeMoyne was created during the 2012 federal redistribution from parts of the former Saint-Bruno—Saint-Hubert and Saint-Lambert ridings. Its population is linguistically diverse for the South Shore, with roughly three-quarters reporting French as a mother tongue and notable communities speaking Spanish, Arabic, and Creole. The borough of Greenfield Park, historically one of the most anglophone communities on the South Shore, lends the riding a bilingual character unusual for the Montréal suburbs south of the river. Major employers include Hôpital Charles-LeMoyne and the retail and service businesses lining Taschereau Boulevard. Public transit connects the riding to downtown Montreal via the Réseau de transport de Longueuil bus network, and commuting patterns tie the local economy closely to the Montreal labour market.
