About the Riding
Vancouver Quadra is anchored by the University of British Columbia, whose Point Grey campus enrolls over 50,000 students and is the riding's largest single institution and employer. Pacific Spirit Regional Park, an 874-hectare forest reserve separating UBC from the rest of the city, provides a greenbelt of trails and old-growth remnants. The residential neighbourhoods of West Point Grey and Dunbar–Southlands are among the most affluent in Vancouver, with large single-family homes and proximity to beaches including Jericho, Locarno, and Spanish Banks. Kitsilano, at the riding's northeastern corner, adds a denser, younger demographic drawn by its commercial village and waterfront. The riding historically leaned Liberal, though the Conservatives won it in 2008 before Murray recaptured it. Federal issues included pipeline and tanker traffic on the Burrard Inlet, the future of the Jericho Lands—a former military base proposed for mixed-use development—transit connections to UBC, and research funding for the university.
