About the Riding
Drawn from portions of Vancouver Centre (38 percent), Vancouver South (26 percent), Vancouver Kingsway (19 percent), and Vancouver Quadra (18 percent), Vancouver Granville was contested for the first time in 2015. The riding's population stood at approximately 99,900 based on the 2011 census. Shaughnessy, with its grand heritage estates and tree-lined boulevards, is among the wealthiest neighbourhoods in Canada, while Marpole and Riley Park offer more modest housing stock and greater demographic diversity. Oakridge Centre, a major shopping mall slated for a large-scale redevelopment, and the Canada Line rapid transit stations at Oakridge–41st Avenue, King Edward, and Marine Drive anchor the riding's commercial and transit infrastructure. Local issues included housing affordability in a city experiencing rapid price escalation, transit planning for the Broadway corridor, and the future of the Heather Lands, a former RCMP training facility being considered for redevelopment.
