About the Riding

Vancouver South is among the most diverse federal ridings in Canada. Cantonese, Punjabi, and Tagalog are the most common non-official mother tongues. The Punjabi Market on Main Street near 49th Avenue, a concentration of South Asian shops and restaurants in the Sunset neighbourhood, has long served as a cultural hub, though its commercial vitality has been challenged by suburban migration to Surrey and Delta. Marine Drive is a major commercial corridor with big-box retail and the River District, a large residential development at the riding's southeastern tip along the Fraser River. Federal issues included immigration policy and family reunification processing times, affordable housing amid Vancouver's escalating real estate market, and infrastructure investment in the George Massey Tunnel replacement and Fraser River flood mitigation.
