Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge

Located on the northern bank of the Fraser River east of Vancouver, Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge comprises two suburban municipalities at the eastern edge of Metro Vancouver. The riding stretches from the farmland and dykes of Pitt Meadows, home to Pitt Lake — one of the largest freshwater tidal lakes in the world — eastward into the growing community of Maple Ridge, population approximately 82,000 in 2015.

Candidates

Dan Ruimy (Liberal) — A small business owner who settled in Maple Ridge in 2011, Ruimy opened Bean Around Books, a book café on Lougheed Highway in downtown Maple Ridge that became a community gathering place. He had previously spent 27 years working in the food and beverage industry before turning to local entrepreneurship.

Mike Murray (Conservative) — Murray had served as executive assistant to retiring Conservative MP Randy Kamp, who had held the predecessor riding since 2004. A former pastor of Calvary Chapel in Pitt Meadows, Murray sought to continue the Conservative hold on the seat.

Bob D'Eith (NDP) — Born in Hong Kong and raised in West Vancouver, D'Eith was a lawyer called to the bar in 1990 who built a career in entertainment law. He served as executive director of Music BC, growing the organization into a significant force for the province's music industry.

Peter Tam (Green Party) and Steve Ranta (Independent) also contested the riding.

About the Riding

Created in the 2012 redistribution, Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge was carved from the former Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission riding. The communities are connected to Vancouver by the Lougheed Highway and the West Coast Express commuter rail line. Maple Ridge's economy blends small-scale agriculture, retail, and a growing residential construction sector driven by families seeking more affordable housing than inner Vancouver. Pitt Meadows retains a rural character with cranberry farms and equestrian properties alongside newer suburban development. Federal issues in 2015 included transportation infrastructure, particularly the Lougheed Highway corridor and transit service, as well as flood management along the Fraser River and housing affordability.
