About the Riding
Langley—Aldergrove had been one of the most reliably conservative ridings in British Columbia, with right-leaning candidates winning the seat at every federal and provincial election for more than 40 years heading into 2015. The Township of Langley was one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Metro Vancouver, with major residential development in the Willoughby and Walnut Grove neighbourhoods transforming formerly rural land. Agriculture remains central to the riding’s identity, with berry farms, nurseries, dairy operations, and equestrian properties throughout the area. Fort Langley, a heritage village at the site of the original Hudson’s Bay Company trading post, is a popular tourist destination. The riding is home to the Langley campus of Trinity Western University. In 2015, key local issues included transportation infrastructure—particularly the lack of rapid transit connections to the rest of Metro Vancouver—agricultural land protection, and managing growth pressures on community services.
