Reinstated through the 2012 redistribution after years of being folded into the larger Nepean—Carleton riding, Nepean encompasses suburban communities in Ottawa's west end, including Barrhaven, Centrepointe, and portions of the Merivale corridor. The riding covers roughly 82 square kilometres of predominantly residential neighbourhoods, many of them built since the 1980s. The federal public service is a dominant employer, and household incomes tend to run above the national median.
Candidates
Chandra Arya (Liberal) — Born in Karnataka, India, Arya earned an MBA from Kousali Institute of Management Studies and immigrated to Canada in 2006. He established himself in Ottawa's business community and served as chairman of the Indo-Canada Ottawa Business Chamber before entering electoral politics.
Andy Wang (Conservative) — A longtime resident of the riding, Wang had worked for five years on the staff of neighbouring MP Pierre Poilievre before seeking the Conservative nomination. He operated a martial arts and dance school in Barrhaven and won a contested nomination race over veteran Conservative organizer Bob Plamondon.

About the Riding
Barrhaven, the riding's largest community, began as a 1960s suburb built beyond Ottawa's Greenbelt and grew rapidly through the 1990s and 2000s with new housing subdivisions, schools, and commercial plazas. By 2015, a major employment district known as the CitiGate corporate campus was taking shape west of Strandherd Drive near Highway 416. Centrepointe, originally envisioned as Nepean's downtown before the 2001 amalgamation with Ottawa, is home to the Ben Franklin Place civic complex and the Centrepointe Theatre. Commuters in the riding depend heavily on OC Transpo bus routes and Highway 416 to reach downtown Ottawa, and transit expansion was a recurring local concern during the campaign period.
