Mississauga Centre

Anchored by the cluster of condominium towers surrounding Square One Shopping Centre, Mississauga Centre occupies the urban core of Ontario's sixth-largest city. The riding encompasses the neighbourhoods of Mississauga City Centre, Creditview, Mavis-Erindale, and portions of Fairview and Rathwood, an area that was rapidly transforming from a car-oriented suburban landscape into a denser urban environment as residential towers rose around the shopping centre throughout the early 2010s.

Julius Tiangson (Conservative) — A certified public accountant and licensed financial advisor, Tiangson won the Conservative nomination in November 2014. About the Riding

Mississauga Centre was undergoing a dramatic physical transformation by 2015. The area around Square One Shopping Centre — one of Ontario's largest retail complexes — had become a forest of condominium towers, attracting a younger and increasingly diverse population. Sheridan College's Hazel McCallion Campus, which opened in the city centre in 2011, added a post-secondary presence. Celebration Square, the civic gathering space adjacent to city hall, had become a focal point for community events. Transit connectivity was a major issue, with plans for the Hurontario Light Rail Transit line generating both anticipation and debate among commuters reliant on Mississauga's bus-based transit system. Many residents commuted to Toronto or other parts of the GTA for work, and the adequacy of GO Transit service and Highway 403 capacity were recurring concerns. The riding's rapid densification raised questions about affordable housing, parkland, and the pace at which municipal and federal infrastructure could keep up with population growth.
