Mission—Matsqui—Abbotsford

Mission—Matsqui—Abbotsford is a Fraser Valley riding covering most of the District of Mission and the northern half of the City of Abbotsford. Renamed from Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon under the 2022 redistribution, the riding's eastern boundary no longer extends into the Fraser Canyon but instead takes in more of the Abbotsford urban area and reaches as far east as Harrison Hot Springs. The communities of Mission, Matsqui, and north Abbotsford form the riding's population centres, set against a backdrop of farmland, river valleys, and the mountains of the Coast Range.

Candidates

Brad Vis (Conservative) is the incumbent, first elected in 2019. A Fraser Valley resident, Vis has served in the official opposition as Shadow Minister for Small Business Recovery and Growth and has been a vocal advocate for agricultural issues and rural infrastructure in the region.

Jeff Howe (Liberal) is an Abbotsford-born lawyer with 19 years of experience. After practising in Saskatoon, he became general counsel for White Bear First Nation in Saskatchewan, where he helped establish a legal clinic. His practice focuses on human rights and Indigenous law, and he has served on the national board of the Canadian Bar Association.

Jules Côté (NDP) is a political science student at the University of the Fraser Valley who grew up in Abbotsford. A member of the National Farmers' Union, she has volunteered with the local food bank and the Starfish Pack Program.

John Kidder (Green Party) is one of the founders of the Green Party of British Columbia and a longtime Ashcroft-area resident. He previously ran as a Green candidate provincially and as a federal Liberal candidate in other ridings. He is the husband of Green Party co-leader Elizabeth May.

Kevin Sinclair (People's Party) is an Abbotsford truck driver and repeat PPC candidate who previously ran in the riding in 2021.

About the Riding

The Fraser Valley's agricultural sector anchors the riding's economy. Abbotsford is one of the highest-grossing agricultural municipalities in Canada, with dairy, poultry, berry, and vegetable farming generating billions of dollars in annual revenue. The Matsqui Prairie, situated on the south bank of the Fraser River, is particularly productive farmland. Mission, positioned where the Fraser River narrows between mountain ranges, has a more mixed economy combining forestry, small manufacturing, and commuter-oriented services for workers travelling to Metro Vancouver.

Population growth has been substantial across the riding, driven by families priced out of the Vancouver housing market who have moved eastward into the Fraser Valley. This growth has intensified demand for local health-care services, school capacity, and highway improvements—particularly along Highway 1 and the Mission Bridge crossing.

In 2025, agricultural trade was a prominent concern, as the riding's dairy, berry, and poultry producers are closely linked to export markets and supply-managed commodities. US tariff threats added uncertainty to an already complex agricultural trade environment. Water infrastructure—including aging sewer and water systems in Mission—was a locally significant issue, alongside the broader themes of housing affordability and cost of living that dominated the campaign across the Fraser Valley.
