Edmonton West

Edmonton West occupies a broad swath of the city's western flank, running from the North Saskatchewan River valley southward through the established neighbourhoods of Jasper Place, Meadowlark, and the communities surrounding West Edmonton Mall, before extending into newer suburban developments near the city's southwestern edge. Following the 2022 redistribution, the riding now spans the river to include most of the Windermere area on the south side. The riding encompasses a diverse mix of mature inner-suburban communities and newer developments, with West Edmonton Mall -- one of the largest shopping centres in North America -- serving as a commercial and employment anchor.

Candidates

Kelly McCauley (Conservative) -- Born and raised in North Vancouver, McCauley graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1982 and spent more than 30 years managing hotels and convention centres across Canada. He has served on numerous volunteer boards, including as vice-president of the Burnaby Board of Trade and president of the Greater Victoria Eldercare Foundation. In Edmonton, he served on the board of Northlands and as chair of the Employment Insurance Board of Referees for Edmonton and Northern Alberta. First elected in 2015, he has chaired the House of Commons Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates.

Brad Fournier (Liberal) -- Born in Leduc and raised on a dairy and Angus operation near Hay Lakes, Fournier holds degrees from Lakeland College, the University of Saskatchewan, and an MBA from Athabasca University. He worked for 15 years as a public servant with the Government of Alberta, administering BSE compensation funds and research grants, and later served as executive director of Diabetes Canada's Alberta division. A former Conservative supporter, he stated that the party had shifted away from his centrist values.

Sean McQuillan (NDP) -- A Cree Metis labour activist born in Edmonton, McQuillan spent over 15 years as a tradesman in the film and television industry. He served as an executive member of the BC Federation of Labour and Indigenous Workers Co-Chair, and chaired the Set Decoration Department of IATSE Local 891. He campaigned on affordable housing, workers' rights, and expanded public healthcare.

Brent Kinzel (People's Party) -- Kinzel carried the People's Party banner, running on fiscal conservatism, reduced immigration, and personal freedoms.

Peggy Morton (Marxist-Leninist) -- Morton represented the Marxist-Leninist Party, running on the party's platform of democratic renewal and workers' empowerment.

About the Riding

Edmonton West is defined by the legacy of Jasper Place, the independent town that was annexed by Edmonton in 1964. The former town's neighbourhoods -- Jasper Park, Britannia Youngstown, Canora, Glenwood, and Meadowlark -- retain a distinct small-town-within-a-city character, with modest bungalows, mature trees, and local commercial strips. These older communities have attracted renewed interest from young families and developers building infill housing, though the transition has not been without friction over density, parking, and neighbourhood character.

West Edmonton Mall, with its more than 800 stores, indoor waterpark, amusement park, and ice rink, is the riding's most prominent landmark and one of its largest employers. The mall and surrounding retail corridor along 170 Street generate significant commercial activity and draw visitors from across the region.

The riding also includes the Misericordia Community Hospital, a major healthcare facility that serves west Edmonton. Transit connectivity has been a persistent local issue, with residents in the riding's western and southern reaches advocating for improved bus service and future LRT expansion. Edmonton West has returned Conservative members since its recreation in 2015, with McCauley building a personal following through constituency work and his profile as a critic of government spending.
