Brantford—Brant sits along the Grand River approximately 40 kilometres west of Hamilton in southwestern Ontario. The riding encompasses the City of Brantford and a surrounding swath of Brant County, including the communities of Onondaga and Burtch, as well as the Six Nations of the Grand River—the largest First Nations reserve in Canada by population—and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. The Grand River, a Canadian Heritage River, winds through the heart of the city and gives the area much of its historical character. Brantford itself is named for Joseph Brant (Thayendanegea), the Mohawk leader who led the Six Nations to settle along the Grand River after the American Revolution.
Brantford was once a significant manufacturing centre—earning comparisons to Manchester for its industrial output—producing agricultural equipment, textiles, and auto parts. While manufacturing has declined, the city has diversified into post-secondary education, healthcare, and digital industries. Wilfrid Laurier University and Nipissing University both maintain Brantford campuses in the revitalized downtown core. The riding's population of approximately 121,000 is predominantly English-speaking, though the Indigenous communities contribute rich cultural and linguistic traditions.

About the Riding
Brantford—Brant is one of the few ridings in southern Ontario where a First Nations reserve constitutes a significant portion of the electorate. The relationship between the City of Brantford, Brant County, and Six Nations—including unresolved land claims along the Grand River—adds a distinctive dimension to local politics that is rarely replicated elsewhere in the province.
The riding swung between Liberal and Conservative representation through the 2000s and 2010s. Local issues include the revitalization of Brantford's downtown, which has undergone a visible transformation since the arrival of post-secondary institutions; the state of healthcare services at Brantford General Hospital; affordable housing; and the economic prospects of Six Nations, where unemployment rates remain significantly higher than the surrounding area.
Agriculture continues to play a role in the county portions of the riding, with cash crops and mixed farming operations occupying the flat terrain beyond the city limits. The Grand River itself is a focal point for recreation, conservation, and cultural heritage, connecting the riding's diverse communities through shared geography.
