Mississauga—Malton

Mississauga—Malton covers the city's northeastern corner, defined above all by its proximity to Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada's busiest air hub. The riding's namesake community of Malton sits immediately north of the sprawling airport lands, while the riding extends west toward the Credit River and south to Highway 403. Created during the 2012 redistribution from portions of three former ridings, Mississauga—Malton is among the most ethnically diverse constituencies in the country.

About the Riding

Malton's identity is inseparable from the airport. In 1937, thirteen farms in the area were selected to become the site of a major new airport, transforming the community from an agricultural settlement into an industrial and logistics hub. Toronto Pearson now processes tens of millions of passengers annually, and the broader Airport Employment Zone generates billions of dollars in economic activity, with airline catering facilities, cargo operations, logistics warehouses, and hotels providing employment to thousands of local residents. The neighbourhood of Malton itself is a dense residential area of postwar apartment blocks and townhouse complexes that has historically served as a first-landing community for newcomers. South Asian residents — particularly Punjabi-speaking communities — make up the largest share of the population, with significant Black, Filipino, and Arab communities as well. Geographically isolated from the rest of Mississauga by the airport's footprint and major highways, Malton has stronger cultural and commercial ties to neighbouring Rexdale in Toronto and southeastern Brampton. In 2019, transit connectivity to the rest of Mississauga, affordable housing, access to family physicians, and investment in recreational and community infrastructure were persistent local concerns.
