About the Riding
Saint-Eustache, the riding's largest municipality, carries historical significance as the site of a decisive battle during the 1837 Rebellion. Deux-Montagnes is the terminus of a commuter rail line into downtown Montreal, making transit infrastructure a central local issue — particularly as the Reseau express metropolitain (REM) light-rail project was under construction and poised to transform commuting patterns. In the spring of 2019, Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac experienced devastating flooding when a natural dike failed, displacing thousands of residents and placing disaster relief and climate adaptation squarely on the federal agenda. Congestion on the aging highway network connecting the riding to Montreal, along with access to French-language federal services, rounded out the issues dominating the 2019 campaign.
