Louis-Saint-Laurent

Spanning the northwestern suburbs of Quebec City, Louis-Saint-Laurent takes in the neighbourhoods of Val-Bélair, Loretteville, Neufchâtel, and Lebourgneuf across the boroughs of La Haute-Saint-Charles and Les Rivières. It also includes the independent city of L'Ancienne-Lorette — a suburb that was reconstituted as a separate municipality in 2006 after a demerger referendum — and the Wendake reserve, home to the Huron-Wendat Nation.

Candidates

Gérard Deltell (Conservative) — Before entering politics, Deltell spent nearly twenty years as a television journalist at TQS, SRC, and TVA, including six years as a correspondent at Quebec's National Assembly. He represented the provincial riding of Chauveau for the ADQ from 2008, became leader of the ADQ in 2009, and continued to sit in the National Assembly after the party merged with the Coalition Avenir Québec in 2012. He left provincial politics to win Louis-Saint-Laurent federally in 2015 and was seeking a second federal mandate.

Jeanne-Paule Desgagnés (Bloc Québécois) — Desgagnés carried the Bloc Québécois banner in this Conservative-leaning riding, running as part of the party's effort to reclaim seats in the Quebec City region.

Jean-Christophe Cusson (Liberal) — Cusson was the Liberal candidate in a riding where the party faced a steep challenge against the well-established Conservative incumbent and a resurgent Bloc.

Colette Amram Ducharme (NDP), Sandra Mara Riedo (Green Party), and Guillaume Côté (People's Party) also ran.

About the Riding

Named for the former prime minister who represented the Quebec City area, Louis-Saint-Laurent is a predominantly suburban riding of single-family homes, shopping plazas, and newer residential developments. Val-Bélair and L'Ancienne-Lorette are commuter communities whose residents work primarily in Quebec City's government offices and service sector. Wendake, a compact reserve within the riding's boundaries, is a centre of Huron-Wendat cultural life and a growing tourist destination, with the Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations drawing visitors year-round. The Lebourgneuf commercial district, anchored by Galeries de la Capitale — the largest shopping centre in Quebec City — provides significant retail employment. The riding's political leanings have tilted centre-right, consistent with the broader Quebec City region where the Conservative Party and its provincial counterpart the CAQ draw strong support.
