Louis-Hébert

Named for the apothecary considered among the earliest European settlers in New France, Louis-Hébert covers Quebec City's southern flank, encompassing the borough of Sainte-Foy—Sillery—Cap-Rouge and the municipality of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures. The riding stretches from the historic bluffs of Sillery along the St. Lawrence through the institutional core of Sainte-Foy — home to the sprawling campus of Université Laval — to the residential community of Cap-Rouge at its western limit.

Candidates

Joël Lightbound (Liberal) — A lawyer who studied at McGill University's Faculty of Law, Lightbound was first elected in 2015 and served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance. He sought to become the first MP in three decades to hold Louis-Hébert for more than a single term, a riding that had voted out its incumbent at every election since 2000.

Christian Hébert (Bloc Québécois) — A farmer and master cider maker, Hébert operated Domaine Hébert in the Capitale-Nationale region. He was named a Knight of the National Order of Agricultural Merit in 2017 and had also served in the Royal Canadian Navy.

Marie-Josée Guérette (Conservative) — Guérette held a political science degree from Université Laval. She had served as a deputy minister in the Quebec government and as a vice-president at La Capitale insurance group.

Jérémie Juneau (NDP), Macarena Diab (Green Party), and Daniel Brisson (People's Party) also contested the riding. Ali Dahan ran as an independent.

About the Riding

Louis-Hébert's character is shaped by the presence of Université Laval and several colleges, giving the riding a large student and academic population alongside established middle-class residential neighbourhoods. Place Laurier and Place de la Cité, two of Quebec City's largest shopping centres, anchor the commercial life of Sainte-Foy. The riding's demographics include a notable immigrant population, with communities from North Africa and Latin America. Cap-Rouge, at the riding's western edge, retains a quieter suburban atmosphere with older housing stock along the Cap-Rouge River valley. Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, a municipality at the riding's western boundary, has seen significant residential development. Health care, transit, and post-secondary funding were recurring campaign themes, given the concentration of educational institutions and the riding's aging population in established neighbourhoods like Sillery.
