About the Riding

Laval grew rapidly during the suburban expansion of the 1960s and 1970s, transforming Île Jésus from agricultural land into one of Quebec's most populous cities. The extension of the Montreal Métro's orange line to Laval in 2007 improved transit connections to the island of Montreal, and further transit improvements remained a campaign issue. The riding's economic base includes pharmaceutical firms, food retailers, and aerospace operations in the broader Laval area. Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, one of the riding's oldest neighbourhoods, was once the site of a federal penitentiary. Traffic congestion on the bridges linking Laval to Montreal, affordable housing, and the cost of living were prominent concerns heading into the 2019 contest.
