Created by the 2012 redistribution, the riding includes some of Edmonton's newest suburban developments alongside established neighbourhoods such as Brander Gardens, Bulyea Heights, and Falconer Heights. The North Saskatchewan River valley forms the riding's northern and eastern boundaries, providing extensive parkland and trail systems.

Matt Jeneroux (Conservative) — A former Progressive Conservative MLA who represented Edmonton-South West in the Alberta Legislature from 2012 to 2015, Jeneroux held a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta and had worked for Health Canada before entering provincial politics. After losing his provincial seat in the May 2015 Alberta NDP sweep, he sought the Conservative nomination in the newly created federal riding of Edmonton Riverbend.

Tariq Chaudary (Liberal) — Chaudary won the Liberal nomination for Edmonton Riverbend at a November 2014 meeting, defeating Tom O'Leary. He ran on the federal Liberal platform of middle-class tax relief and infrastructure investment.

About the Riding

Edmonton Riverbend is a predominantly suburban riding characterized by newer single-family homes, growing families, and above-average household incomes relative to the Edmonton metropolitan area. The Terwillegar and Riverbend communities were developed from the 1970s onward, with continued expansion southward into areas like Windermere and Ambleside through the 2000s and 2010s. The North Saskatchewan River valley provides residents with extensive green space, including Terwillegar Park, one of the largest off-leash areas in Edmonton. Key local issues in 2015 included traffic congestion on Terwillegar Drive and the Anthony Henday, the economic impact of falling oil prices on household budgets, and questions about federal infrastructure funding for Edmonton's growing southwest. The riding's professional and managerial workforce, many employed in the energy sector's corporate offices, made the oil-price downturn a particularly salient concern during the campaign.
