Encompassing the southern and eastern portions of Saskatchewan's capital city, Regina—Wascana stretches from the downtown core and the legislature grounds along Wascana Lake eastward through residential neighbourhoods to the city's expanding eastern edge. The riding is named for Wascana Creek, which flows through the heart of Regina and feeds the artificial lake at the centre of Wascana Centre, one of the largest urban parks in North America.
Candidates
Ralph Goodale (Liberal) — One of the longest-serving parliamentarians in Canadian history, Goodale was first elected to the House of Commons in 1974 at age 24 as the MP for Assiniboia. After losing his seat in 1979, he led the Saskatchewan Liberal Party from 1981 to 1988 and was elected to the Saskatchewan legislature in 1986. Returning to federal politics in 1993 as MP for Regina—Wascana, he held senior cabinet posts under Prime Ministers Chrétien and Martin, including Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of Public Works, and Minister of Finance from 2003 to 2006. He served as Opposition House Leader and later Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party.
Michael Kram (Conservative) — Born and raised in Regina, Kram graduated from Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Regina, with additional economics studies at Carleton University.
