About the Riding
Winnipeg South Centre is among the more affluent and politically competitive ridings in Manitoba, with a mix of well-established older neighbourhoods and upscale commercial areas. The riding includes Osborne Village, one of Winnipeg’s densest and most walkable urban neighbourhoods, alongside the low-density residential streets of Tuxedo and River Heights. Assiniboine Park, covering approximately 1,100 acres including the adjacent Assiniboine Forest, is a major green space in the riding. The local economy is driven by professional services, retail along Corydon Avenue and Academy Road, and proximity to the downtown core. Issues in the 2015 campaign included infrastructure investment, middle-class affordability, climate and energy policy, and support for small businesses along the riding’s commercial corridors.
