For what it’s worth…

My sources are telling me that this Hill Times story about Bruce Carson being Prime Minister Harper’s next Chief of Staff just isn’t true.

Bruce Carson wasn’t even in Ottawa last weekend.

The Hill Times reported today:

Conservative insiders say they expect to see a “softer side” from Prime Minister Stephen Harper with Bruce Carson as his new chief of staff after news broke last week that current chief of staff Guy Giorno is leaving the job.

Mr. Carson, the executive director of the Canada School of Energy and Environment and former senior adviser in the PMO, was in Ottawa last weekend meeting with Mr. Harper (Calgary Southwest, Alta.) and sources told The Hill Times that the Prime Minister will hire him to bring a less adversarial approach to politics when Parliament resumes later this month.

UPDATE: Hill Times publishes online retraction: Carson not expected to replace Giorno as chief of staff

This won’t be the first or last time the Canadian press have been wrong about the goings on in the PM’s office. ‘Best they concentrate on Iggy’s bus tour and what it gained for the Leader of the Opposition.

Did sound odd since Giorno has said repeatedly that he’ll leave by Christmas. Besides, if there is an election as I speculate in a BT Forums post, why would you want a wholesale staff change right now? Finally, Carson left when Brodie left. Seems to me if Harper wanted him as Chief, he would have asked him then.

I read the ‘Shill Times’ bio on Carson and I cringed… I pray you are correct. (real conservative)

They are actively considering candidates for CoS

Our boring national media making things up… again

    media fabricating again.

Ah! The media at work again. And of course they’ll blame the conservative “insiders”.

Carson is good people. However, I’m told that rumours of his being hired as CoS are just not true.

    Fair enough. (real conservative)

Media it trying to twist this into something it isn’t. How many staff has iggy gone thru in his short time as unelected leader. Starting with all Dion’s staff, how many CoS has he had, how many Que honchos.
And how many leaders has the lib party had in 4 yrs.

Standard chief of staff employment arc is 2 years. Perhaps the unusual part is how long Giorno’s been working at it.

Another example of giddyupitis, shoot before getting the facts, gotta act like they’ve got good “sources”.
Maybe they should just wait for an announcement , but guess that doesn’t fit their speculative nature.

    It didn’t happen!
