Nannygate news

Just a few minutes ago, the House of Commons unanimously endorsed a report produced by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration which included the following recommendation,

Recommendation 7 The Committee recommends that the authorized bodies in the provincial and federal governments investigate the allegations of the former live-in caregivers in the Dhalla residence and take measures as appropriate. Further, the Committee requests that these government bodies, upon completion of their investigations, send the result to the Committee.

The Liberals had a chance to amend the motion in the House today, but perhaps they were asleep at the switch?

Were the Liberals asleep at the switch when they let this one pass? Are they that disorganised?
  • The CPC, NDP, Bloc have a vested interest in destroying the Liberal Party.

Actually, Canadians as a whole have an interest in destroying the Liberal Party. They have been a destructive force in Canada, feeding flames of separatism in Quebec, dividing the country along ethnic lines and saddling us with a Constitution that is virtually impossible to amend. If they were to disappear and the NDP were to supplant them as the 2nd party, Canadians would be better of - they would have clear policy choices and not be misled by the mushy, self-serving and contradictory pronouncements of the thoroughly corrupted Liberal party.

She is being thrown under the bus.

The Liberals along with CBC and CTV were too busy slamming the Canadian soldiers in Afganistan of torture. My father, a Lietenant in WWII, in charge of the tanks in Holland, would be turning over in his grave, after listening to all this smear against our hero's, defending this country against terrorists, who chop off the heads of westerners and show them on video's. I am totally sickened at the media of today, drowning out and cutting off Peter McKay, defending the honor of Canadian soldiers. How low and pathetic can these Liberals and NDP of today go?

This latest attempt to GET something on the Conservative government by staining the reputation of our brave soldiers will backfire. Judging from the polls it's already happening.

A person close to me was a young soldier in the Signal Corps who spent a lot of time in Holland, currently a memoir for his family and not too pleased with what's going on with the Opposition, in fact he's livid.
Maybe the silly fools should take a visit to a few Legions or maybe a few Old Folks homes where some of the older Vets reside.

Did anyone ever think we'd see elected people sink so low? On top of that have willing accomplices to support them in the media?

Peter McKay did well yesterday on Clark's PP, a slightly biased production on the best of days. McKay certainly wasn't taking any flack and rightly so much to the chagrin of Clark who didn't win that segment in the eyes of patriot and fair minded Canadians.

Have to wonder if the entire opposition are still seething at the fact the Harper government has begun the long road of rebuilding our military. It's in sharp contrast to the Chretien regime sending them to Afghanistan without so much as proper uniforms and equipment.

Oops, in second paragraph that should read: currently WRITING a memoir for his family......

I said it then and I'll say it again - why did they hire full-time caregivers for a daily foot massage? What were the caregivers supposed to do all day? There is no way that these caregivers should have been hired to give a daily foot massage - any masseur or masseuse could do the job. There is definitely something not right about this whole situation. And, to compound the matter, Dhalla's protests and efforts to deflect the whole issue smacks of guilt, IMHO. I suspect that there are many other families like the Dhallas whose caregiver situations should be investigated. This whole nannygate situation smells and I suspect that there is something just not right. Funny that as soon as the story broke, Mrs. Dhalla no longer needed a caregiver. Funny, that. I'm not accusing the family of anything but Dhalla's protests really gave rise to suspicions in my mind, that's for sure. She never directly answered any questions but, instead, went into some sort of PR mode which had nothing to do with the actual situation at hand. Very suspicious, indeed.

Are the Libs asleep at the wheel? No. I think that somebody in the party finally woke up and realized that defending Dhalla would be unproductive. Nobody threw her under the bus - she jumped under the bus, herself, when she refused to actually deal with the issue. She opted for all sorts of smoke and mirrors and it appears that the smoke is dispersing and the mirrors are shattering.

They were too busy showing anger about other stuff. You know about the "goddamn disgrace" that is Liberal foreign policy? They were trying to defend that.

Not to worry though. Iggy has taken responsibility for the poor showing. Presumably all of those polls that didn't matter actually do.

So, they throw another one out of the bus. Soon that bus will be replaced by one of those old VW vans with only Iggy, Donolo and the ass kicker on board.Whoo what a road trip that'll be.Peace man.

Perhaps they're trying to oust Ruby, her chances for re-election may not look good.

Their disgraceful antics regarding alleged abuse of Afghan detainees by Afghan officials isn't catching on for them. When we have men and women in the field on that difficult mission it can only be considered a disgrace to be accusing our military of knowingly handing them over to abusers. That's basically what they're doing.

Soldiers are sent to war, by governments, the military men and women are the trained experts in that game, not the governments.

When smear and smut become the order of the day for the Opposition, a supposed government in waiting, we know power will elude them. Polls are not looking any better for them either for what that's worth.

Funny picture you painted there of an old VW van with the Big Three in it. Would they have a hired driver, Bob Rae maybe?
  • Bruce
Maybe Iggy wants to ask Richard Colvin to run in Miss Ruby's riding?
  • Liz J
Anythings possible when desperation takes hold.

Forgive me for this but the old adage "one good turn deserves another" comes to mind here.
  • David
It appears I may have been wrong about the ass kicker still being on board. Make it a smart car instead of a VW van...
  • johnlogan
Thank goodness for this.It looks good on the Libs and Ruby.

    OT

WK is throwing in the towel. At least for now.

The report includes dissenting opinion by the Liberals on the committee so a unanimous approval includes that

I agree that smearing our soldiers will backfire on the socialists and the entitlementists. There is a great line at the end of the animated film the incredibles where an evil menace digs himself up from the underground and claims " I am the underminer. I am always beneath you but there is nothing benreath me. " I always think of the Liberals and socialists when I heat it.
  • JD
There is a 5 page minority Liberal report with their view on it on pp 25-30
  • Central_Canadian
I guess they figured the couldn't stop it from happening so they were better to join in and vote for it. It is curious why a fit senior citizen who was healthy enough to travel the globe on the taxpayers dime would need a full time caregiver.
  • Ancevich
What should be investigated is overwhelming hypocrisy.
  • Jake
Didn't Dhalla herself call for an inquiry as soon as this all happened?
  • east of eden
Yes, she did. It was a silly attempt to toss up some smoke and it appears that the smoke is heading her way. What a buffoon. She should have just come clean instead of pushing this "I'm so wonderful" crapola.
