  1. So if Obama gets elected (Big If), The Star will be fully supporting his sending 30,000 troops to Afghanistan and pressuring the NATO Allies to send more troops ?

    Ya right

  2. A few weeks ago James Travers of the Star wrote that the Liberals had executed “a competent launch' of the Green shift policy.

I wonder if the Conservatives had launched some policy which the leader could not explain, several MP's did not support or understand, that several spoke about needing some major changes and that the owner of the liberated name was suing the party if Mr Travers would have also described it as 'competent'?

Last week – the day after the CROP pool came out in Quebec showing the Liberal$ in free fall and the Tories a sniff behind the Bloc for top spot in the province – Chantal Hebert wrote an article all about how Harper's Arts cuts would cost him dearly in the Province – with no mention that the Liberals have been all but run out of the province or that the conservatives are surging.

Ah – the world according to the Toronto Star.

The same paper after Paul Martin had his majority trimmed to a minority came out with the headline 'We Hear You' and when Harper turfed Martin out of office it was a 'Fragile Minority'. Yes folks, this is the same 'Fragile Minority' that has governed through the last 2.5 years with Mr Dion backpeadling away from an election through almost the entire term.

Those of us in Toronto know that there is the word the way it is and the world the was Mr Honderich, Mr Travers and the Toronto Star wishes is was.

This is aggressive – even for this paper who in my view has established itself as the most leftist, extremist paper in North America.

However – I think that the Star's ratcheting up of the conservative jihad is a direct correlation of the brain trust realizing that a majority is in reach for Mr Harper.

I look forward to the mid October headlines..

  3. Nothing surprises form the Red Star.

Believe their headlines at your peril. Their headlines say the Arctic ice is thinning as defacto information from scientists or whatever when the truth is they said it could possibly thin in the future, not a definite. Anyone getting info from that red rag is badly misinformed.

  4. The media will have a big say in the coming american elections. It's going to be very different from the 2004 campaign. I don't think we'll be talking about Irak, Ben Laden or the fight against evil… It's Fox News vs MSNBC. I hope our friends don't mess up with this one..

  5. LOL … a classic.

But seriously, does the Star really think ‘bama is going to be less belligerent and more “progressive” than McCain, in either domestic or foreign affairs? Do cons and neocons think that McCain is going to be any wiser or more “conservative”? Both of them are just run-of-the-mill socialist clowns – or puppets if you prefer – who think that everything in the world is a nail, with “Property of U.S. Govt” stamped on the top. Neither has done a lick of real work in his life, both are associated with crooked real estate, ahem, businessmen, and possibly neither of them is even constitutionally eligible to be president (not that the so-called goddmmned piece of paper has any particular standing any longer).

The Star is not cheering for ‘bama because of any analysis of his policies, or any deep, thoughtful consideration of his motivating philosophy. They’re drooling over him because they’ve been told that he’s “their guy”, the same way that the partisan fanatic of a sports team runs out and buys a poster of their latest star draft pick.

  6. I remember when the Tories worked with the Bloc to try to defeat the Martin minority, the headline was “Deal With the Devil.” The following week Paul Martin cut a deal with the Bloc to stay in power, the headline read “Martin Outmanouvres Harper.”

At least their honest and consistent in their bias, though. Give them that.

  7. Bama Bound:

“Neither has done a lick of real work in his life”

I think John McCain's 22 year career as a 22-year career as a naval aviator might qualify as real work in most people's books – maybe a little bit of reading from his site and a little less from Michael Moore's might help round out your view:

On July 29 1967, John narrowly survived the first of many near-death experiences during his lifetime while preparing to take off on a bombing mission over North Vietnam from his ship, the USS Forrestal. A missile accidentally fired from a nearby plane struck the fuel tanks on John's plane and created a deadly inferno aboard the ship. John barely escaped the fiery disaster that killed 134 men, injured hundreds more and destroyed 20 planes.

Instead of taking the option to return home after the Forrestal disaster, Senator McCain volunteered for more combat duty – a fateful decision that stopped the clock on his life and separated him from his family, and country, for five and a half years.

During his 23rd bombing mission on October 26, 1967, a missile struck John's plane and forced him to eject, knocking him unconscious and breaking both his arms and his leg. John was then taken as a prisoner of war into the now infamous “Hanoi Hilton,” where he was denied necessary medical treatment and often beaten by the North Vietnamese. John spent much of his time as a prisoner of war in solitary confinement, aided by his faith and the friendships of his fellow POWs. When he was finally released and able to return home years later, John continued his service by regaining his naval flight status.

Senator McCain's last Navy duty assignment was to serve as the naval liaison to the United States Senate. John retired from the Navy in 1981. His naval honors include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

  8. Man, is the Red Star ever pathetic. They make out Obama to be the coming of the Messiah and then paint Palin as 'gun-toting'. No wonder the Red Star is not respected by anyone outside of Toronto.

Americans will be deeply disappointed in Obama if they elect him.

  9. RE: Gun toting mother: This woman is a pretty one, sort of WalMart pritty. However her facial expression is a pure evil. She is as dangerous as McBush for they represent the party that can do nothig for the”regular” people of USA. They just need them to get themselves elected and when it is over, they will need them no more. Oh yes, I forgot they will need them to go to Iraq and other wars or send their children there. While their republican leaders' and shakers' children “contibute” to the war efforts “at home”. People, we are witnissing an evil in action that wants to perpetuate the Bush admin. thing for the next not 4 years but 100.
The only chance America has to restore itself as a decent civilized country is to vote and elect Obama. For ONLY Democrat America can be democratic and decent. We in Canada also must be vigilant and think forouselves for we alo have Buchharper who wants to change this country into Bush type of Canada. Should he get the majority we who are used to Canada of past, till he got in, would not recognize it once he and his henchman go over it with their brutal neo-con methods and policies. So anyone who has any decency in their veins think hard before you vote. For the vote for Harper et al is a vote to ruin this country for long time to come.

  10. Senator MCCain the hero said many things about his “mistreatment” at Hanoi Hilton, as they call it. I bet not even 5% of it is true but was a spin to make the North Vietnamees look so cruel and evil while he super hero.. They saved his life, gave him med. treatment as good as they gave anyone in their country, in fact much better. While the doctors who attended his injuries worked on him, many of their own people died as a result of not having those doc available. After all he was just bombing illegaly N.V and killing their people indiscriminately. No one tortured him, maybe some intimidation and few slaps around. Ask those non-combatants who are waterboarded etc in 21 century America? In America it is all about spinning that's all. So he was POW, and was let go in one piece when the time came. Thousands did the same or more and got nothing in return. He was privilaged and was treated like one even by the those “terrible blood thirsy” communists. Now the BS continues in order to BS the populous of America that is already so brain washed that they don't know their (**^% hole from hole in the ground. The whole decent world is hoping that this time the majority of USA does not get tricked again to vote republican. But anything can happen in America. As I type this you can (again) see the tail of McCain's heroism. What a BS. One does have to have a strong stomach to watch this so the lunch or dinner would not be refunded. Maybe this story could be sold to fashion models to make it easier for them to refund. Someone will bottled it and make big $$$. Only in America. Keep it there, please.
