Calgary Skyview

Calgary Skyview occupies the northernmost tier of the city, a suburban district that was substantially redrawn through the 2022 redistribution. The riding lost its southern communities to the newly created Calgary McKnight, but expanded westward along the northern boundary of the redrawn Calgary Nose Hill riding. It remains one of the most diverse constituencies in Calgary, with large South Asian, Filipino, Chinese, and Middle Eastern communities concentrated in its suburban neighbourhoods.

The riding includes the communities of Panorama Hills, Coventry Hills, Country Hills, Country Hills Village, Harvest Hills, Skyview Ranch, Cityscape, Cornerstone, Redstone, and Livingston, as well as portions of Hidden Valley and the areas north of Stoney Trail. Many of these communities were developed from the 2000s onward and continue to grow.

Candidates

Amanpreet S. Gill (Conservative) is a Calgary-area professional who previously ran as a United Conservative Party candidate in Calgary-Bhullar-McCall in the 2023 Alberta provincial election. He was appointed as the Conservative candidate in Calgary Skyview in late March 2025, bypassing a contested nomination process that had attracted at least eight prospective candidates.

Hafeez Malik (Liberal) is a community leader who was acclaimed as the Liberal candidate for Calgary Skyview. Incumbent Liberal MP George Chahal, who had moved to the new Calgary McKnight riding, campaigned alongside Malik throughout the contest.

Rajesh Angral (NDP) is a media personality, business leader, and community advocate who has conducted hundreds of political interviews across major Canadian media platforms. He previously ran as an NDP candidate in the 2023 Alberta provincial election and is active in Calgary's cricket community.

Minesh Patel (Independent) ran as an independent candidate in the riding.

Scott Calverley (Independent) ran as an independent candidate in the riding.

Jag Anand (Independent) ran as an independent candidate in the riding.

About the Riding

Calgary Skyview's communities are among the most ethnically diverse in Western Canada. Panorama Hills, the riding's largest neighbourhood, is home to a substantial South Asian population and has one of the highest concentrations of newcomer families in the city. The riding's diversity shapes local priorities, with immigration policy, credential recognition for foreign-trained professionals, and settlement services carrying particular weight.

The Conservative nomination process in Calgary Skyview became a source of controversy in the 2025 campaign. Gill's late appointment, bypassing activists who had spent more than a year organizing, drew public criticism from several would-be nominees. Media reports also revealed that Gill had previously donated to the federal Liberal Party and to George Chahal's riding association, adding a further layer of controversy to his candidacy.

Affordability was the overriding concern for voters in the riding, where many families are recent homeowners carrying significant mortgage obligations in a period of elevated interest rates. Grocery prices, insurance costs, and the availability of family physicians were frequently cited by residents as pressing issues. Transit service to the riding's newer northern communities, which are not yet served by Calgary's CTrain light rail system, was another recurring local concern. Voter turnout in the northeast has historically trailed the rest of the city, a pattern that continued in 2025.
