Calgary Heritage

Calgary Heritage occupies the southwestern corner of the city, a compact 70-square-kilometre riding of established suburban neighbourhoods between Glenmore Trail to the north, Macleod Trail to the east, and the city's southern limits. The riding includes communities such as Haysboro, Southwood, Kingsland, Chinook Park, Oakridge, Braeside, Cedarbrae, Canyon Meadows, Woodbine, Bridlewood, Evergreen, and Shawnessy. Fish Creek Provincial Park runs through the riding's southern reaches, while the Glenmore Reservoir marks its northern boundary. The riding is predominantly middle-to-upper-income, with a mix of established postwar neighbourhoods and newer developments from the 1990s and 2000s.

Candidates

Shuv Majumdar (Conservative) is the incumbent, first elected in a 2023 by-election with over 65 percent of the vote. Born in Calgary to Indian immigrant parents of Bengali Hindu origin, he attended the University of Calgary, where he became friends with Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre through the university's Reform Party campus club. Majumdar built a career in foreign policy, serving as a ministerial staffer for international trade, policy director to Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, and working alongside Jason Kenney at the Department of National Defence. He later served as founding Foreign Policy Director and Munk Senior Fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute.

Scott Arnott (Liberal) has lived in Calgary for 25 years and brings a background in energy and finance, having worked at Suncor Energy, ATCO, and Deloitte. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst. He was acclaimed as the Liberal candidate.

Becki Zimmerman (NDP) is a former nurse of seven years and a single mother of three. Her campaign focused on healthcare quality, mental health reform, and diversity and inclusion.

Ravenmoon Crocker (Green Party), Chris Galas (Independent), and Larry R. Heather (Christian Heritage Party) also stood as candidates in the riding.

About the Riding

Calgary Heritage is a mature suburban riding that reflects several eras of Calgary's southward expansion. Haysboro, Southwood, and Chinook Park were developed in the 1950s and 1960s during Calgary's postwar boom, while Oakridge, Braeside, and Canyon Meadows followed in the 1970s and 1980s. Woodbine, Bridlewood, Evergreen, and Shawnessy represent the 1990s and 2000s push toward the city's southern edge. The riding's most prominent natural feature is Fish Creek Provincial Park, one of the largest urban parks in Canada, which provides an extensive trail network and green space running east to west through the riding.

The riding's residents are predominantly homeowners working in Calgary's energy, financial, professional services, and healthcare sectors. Household incomes are generally above the city average, and the demographic includes a significant proportion of established families and retirees in the older northern neighbourhoods.

In 2025, Calgary Heritage's voters were focused on economic stability and the cost of living. Mortgage renewals at elevated interest rates concerned homeowners across the riding, while retirees on fixed incomes felt the squeeze of rising grocery and utility costs. The US trade dispute injected uncertainty into an energy-sector-dependent economy, with many residents employed by companies whose revenues are tied to cross-border oil and gas flows. Healthcare remained a persistent concern—the South Health Campus, Calgary's newest hospital, sits just outside the riding boundary, but family-physician shortages affected residents across the district. The riding's proximity to Spruce Meadows, an internationally renowned equestrian facility, and Fish Creek Provincial Park kept local environmental stewardship and park funding on the agenda.
