La Pointe-de-l'Île

La Pointe-de-l'Île occupies the eastern tip of the Island of Montreal, taking in the neighbourhood of Pointe-aux-Trembles in the Borough of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, the City of Montréal-Est, and portions of the neighbourhoods of Longue-Pointe and Mercier-Est in the Borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. Bounded by the Rivière des Prairies to the north and the St. Lawrence River to the east, the riding has a population of approximately 102,000 and has historically served as a stronghold for Quebec sovereignty. The neighbourhood of Pointe-aux-Trembles has deep francophone working-class roots, while Montréal-Est was long defined by its oil refineries and petrochemical facilities.

Candidates

Mario Beaulieu (Bloc Québécois) is the incumbent, having held the seat since winning a 2014 by-election. Born in Sherbrooke in 1959, he served as president of the sovereigntist Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste of Montreal from 2009 to 2014 and has been a spokesperson for the Mouvement Québec français, a coalition advocating for the defence of French in Quebec. He served as leader and interim leader of the Bloc Québécois during the party's difficult 2014–2019 period and has been the party's critic for Official Languages.

Viviane Minko (Liberal) is a graduate of HEC Montréal and the Université de Montréal, originally from Gabon. She is the founder and CEO of Espoir V, an organization dedicated to empowering women, girls, youth, and vulnerable individuals through education and capacity-building. A member of the riding association's board of directors since 2017, she has chaired the board at Nutrition sans Frontière and campaigned on food security, housing affordability, and the fight against rental precarity.

Violetta Potapova (Conservative) is a project manager and community advocate who focused her campaign on affordable housing, safer streets, and lower taxes for seniors and workers.

Ghada Chaabi (NDP) is a resident of Pointe-aux-Trembles since 2008 and mother of three. She began her career in public health in 2005 and later founded Résidence Bel Âge, a seniors' residence in Terrebonne. She has served as an administrator of the Association of Merchants and Professionals of Old Pointe-aux-Trembles.

Olivier Huard (Green Party) ran for the Green Party of Canada.

Geneviève Royer (Marxist-Leninist) represented the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada.

About the Riding

La Pointe-de-l'Île has undergone significant economic change over the past generation. Montréal-Est's petrochemical industry—once the district's defining employer—has contracted, and the city has invested in environmental remediation of former industrial sites as part of Montreal's broader effort to revitalize its eastern districts. New residential and commercial developments are gradually transforming the area's character.

Pointe-aux-Trembles retains its small-town feel despite being part of the Montreal metropolitan area, with a lively old village core and proximity to waterfront parks along the St. Lawrence. The riding's residents are predominantly francophone, and support for Quebec sovereignty has historically been stronger here than in most Montreal ridings.

In 2025, housing affordability and the lack of social housing were the defining local issues. Viviane Minko's campaign drew attention to the gap between housing demand and supply in the riding's eastern neighbourhoods. Transit connectivity was another major concern, as residents of Pointe-aux-Trembles face some of the longest commute times on the island to reach downtown employment centres. The revitalization of Montréal-Est's industrial lands and the broader economic future of east-end Montreal also shaped the campaign debate.
