Edmonton West covers the western portion of the City of Edmonton, taking in a broad swath of residential neighbourhoods between the North Saskatchewan River to the north and the city's western and southern boundaries. The riding includes the communities of West Jasper Place, Meadowlark, Callingwood, Belmead, La Perle, Lewis Estates, Summerlea, Lymburn, Terra Losa, Cameron Heights, and Donsdale, among others. Stony Plain Road serves as a major commercial corridor through the riding's northern section, while 170 Street and the Anthony Henday Drive provide the principal north-south and ring-road transportation links. The riding is home to West Edmonton Mall — once the largest shopping centre in the world and still one of North America's largest, featuring more than 800 stores, an indoor waterpark, an amusement park, and an ice rink.
The riding had a 2021 census population of approximately 112,900. The area has a diverse demographic profile, with notable populations of Ukrainian, Filipino, and Chinese residents. The neighbourhoods trace their history to the former Town of Jasper Place, which amalgamated with Edmonton on August 17, 1964.

About the Riding
Edmonton West was re-created in the 2012 redistribution from parts of the abolished Edmonton—Spruce Grove riding and the redrawn Edmonton Centre. The riding combines older, established communities in its eastern half with newer suburban developments to the west and south. The Jasper Place area, including West Jasper Place and Glenwood, retains a mid-century suburban character — modest homes built in the 1950s and 1960s on the lands of the former Town of Jasper Place. Stony Plain Road through this area has undergone streetscaping and revitalization in recent years, with murals, plaza improvements, and efforts to attract new businesses to what was once a struggling commercial corridor.
Farther west, the riding transitions into newer suburban development. Lewis Estates, Cameron Heights, and the communities along the western edge of the city feature larger homes, contemporary design, and a more affluent demographic. The contrast between the riding's older eastern neighbourhoods and its newer western suburbs produces a constituency with a wider range of household incomes and housing conditions than many Edmonton ridings.
West Edmonton Mall is the riding's most prominent landmark and a major employer. The mall complex generates thousands of retail, hospitality, and entertainment jobs, and draws tourists from across western Canada and internationally. The Misericordia Community Hospital, located in the West Meadowlark Park neighbourhood, provides healthcare services and employs a significant number of local residents.
Transit infrastructure was a significant concern for residents. Bus connections from the riding's western suburbs to LRT stations and the downtown core were limited, and many residents relied on private vehicles for their commute. The Jasper Place area's proximity to Stony Plain Road provided better transit access, but service frequency remained an issue. Housing affordability was increasingly pressing even in this traditionally mid-market area, as prices rose across the city through 2020 and 2021.
