Moose Jaw—Lake Centre—Lanigan

Spanning roughly 39,400 square kilometres of southern Saskatchewan, Moose Jaw—Lake Centre—Lanigan stretches from the city of Moose Jaw in the west through the shores of Lake Diefenbaker and Last Mountain Lake to the potash-mining hub of Lanigan in the east. With a population of approximately 83,300 and an average age of 43, the riding encompasses a mix of small-city services, prairie agriculture, resource extraction, and military infrastructure. The landscape is quintessentially southern Saskatchewan—flat to gently rolling cropland broken by coulees, alkaline lakes, and the broad valley of the South Saskatchewan River.

Candidates

Fraser Tolmie (Conservative) — The son of first-generation Scottish immigrants, Tolmie grew up in a single-parent household and went on to serve as an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, earning a degree in War Studies and Strategic Thought from King's College London. He holds both private and commercial pilot licences. Before entering federal politics, Tolmie served as a Moose Jaw city councillor from 2009 to 2012 and then as mayor from 2016 to 2021.

Talon Regent (NDP) — A Moose Jaw lawyer, Regent served as the NDP's president of the Saskatchewan Council of Electoral District Associations and as treasurer for the riding association. His campaign focused on universal pharmacare, dental and optical care, accountability for pandemic profiteering, and ending for-profit models in long-term care homes.

Katelyn Zimmer (Liberal) — A second-generation veterinarian and Vice President of the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association, Zimmer lives with her family on an acreage near Craven and works at the Victoria Veterinary Clinic in Regina. She campaigned on supporting farming communities, child-care access, and increasing female representation in elected office.

Chey Craik (PPC) — Craik ran for the People's Party of Canada on a platform opposing vaccine mandates, eliminating the carbon tax, and reducing federal spending.

About the Riding

The riding's economy rests on four pillars: agriculture, potash mining, military operations, and tourism. The district sits atop one of the world's largest potash deposits, and two solution mines near Moose Jaw produce fertilizer destined for global export markets. Agriculture ranges from grain and oilseed farming on the open plains to cattle operations in the rangeland south of Moose Jaw. Trade policy—particularly tariffs affecting potash and agricultural commodities—is a front-burner issue for voters.

15 Wing Moose Jaw, a Canadian Forces Base on the city's southern edge, is home to the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program, where the Royal Canadian Air Force trains military pilots on behalf of the NATO alliance using state-of-the-art simulation systems. The base employs hundreds of military and civilian personnel and is a major economic engine for the city. Defence spending and veterans' affairs are consequently of heightened local interest.

Moose Jaw itself is a city of roughly 34,000 with a colourful history—local legend ties its network of underground tunnels to the bootlegging era of the 1920s. Today, the city's Tunnels of Moose Jaw attraction and the nearby mineral-spring spa at Temple Gardens draw tourists year-round. Lake Diefenbaker, created by the Gardiner and Qu'Appelle dams, offers irrigation water for surrounding farms and recreational fishing for walleye and northern pike.

The riding was created in 2012 from portions of the former Palliser and Blackstrap electoral districts and was first contested in 2015. Voter turnout averages roughly 69 percent—slightly below the national average—and the seat has been firmly Conservative since its inception.
