London West

London West covers the western and northwestern portions of the City of London, taking in the Thames River communities of Byron and Springbank, the established suburbs of Oakridge and Westmount, and newer residential developments pushing toward the city's southwestern boundary. The constituency blends tree-lined older neighbourhoods with rapidly expanding subdivisions at the urban-rural fringe.

Candidates

Kate Young (Liberal) — Young spent nearly two decades as a television news anchor at CFPL-TV (CTV London), where she was hired in 1985 as the station's first female anchor. After leaving broadcast journalism, she served as manager of public affairs and community relations for the Thames Valley District School Board. First elected in 2015, she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, and later held parliamentary secretary roles for science and public services and procurement.

Liz Snelgrove (Conservative) — Snelgrove was a health-care executive who had served as Executive Director of the Advanced Medical Group, a multi-disciplinary medical facility and seniors' retirement home. She held an MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University. She had previously received her riding association's approval to seek the provincial Progressive Conservative nomination in London West in 2018 before being asked to step aside when the party leader appointed a different candidate.

Shawna Lewkowitz (NDP) — An educator and community organizer, Lewkowitz taught at King's University College and worked as an equity and inclusion consultant. She founded Women and Politics, an advocacy group dedicated to reducing barriers for women entering political life, and served on the City of London's advisory committees on diversity.

Mary Ann Hodge (Green Party) — Hodge was a community organizer, environmentalist, and occasional teacher with the Thames Valley District School Board. She served on the City of London's Advisory Committee on the Environment, where she led the successful push to have city council declare a climate emergency.

Mike McMullen (People's Party) and Jacques Boudreau (Libertarian) also contested the riding.

About the Riding

London West includes some of the city's more affluent neighbourhoods, particularly the riverside streets of Byron and the Sifton Bog conservation area, which lend parts of the riding a semi-rural feel despite their urban setting. The riding's western edge was rapidly developing with new subdivisions on former agricultural land, placing pressure on roads, schools, and municipal services. Many residents commuted to employment centres elsewhere in London or along the Highway 401 corridor.

The riding's economy drew on London's broader strengths in health care, insurance, education, and advanced manufacturing. By 2019, affordable housing and the opioid crisis were dominant concerns across all of London's ridings, but London West's mix of established homeowners and young families in new developments also made infrastructure investment and transit connectivity salient issues. The Wonderland Road and Oxford Street commercial corridors served as the riding's main retail and service hubs.
