About the Riding
Joliette serves as the administrative and commercial hub of the Lanaudiere region. The city is home to the Musee d'art de Joliette, one of Quebec's important regional art museums, and hosts the annual Festival de Lanaudiere, a classical music festival of international reputation. Agriculture, including dairy farming and maple syrup production, underpins the rural economy, while Joliette's commercial core provides services to the broader region. The riding's proximity to Montreal means a growing number of residents commute south for work. Federal issues in the campaign included rural broadband access, support for agricultural producers facing trade uncertainty, health care transfers, and infrastructure for small municipalities. The Bloc Quebecois has historically performed well in the riding, and sovereignty sentiment runs deep in the Lanaudiere hinterland.
