Liberal hot air on climate change

Michael Ignatieff had the following to say about Stephen Harper in a speech to students at Laval University on the topic of climate change,

“Stephen Harper doesn’t understand the environment, either. He’s turned Canada into a veritable saboteur of international climate change negotiations.” — Michael Ignatieff

The “Fossil of the Day” award, sponsored by AVAAZ.org, is an award that “is given to countries that block progress at the United Nations Climate Change Negotations.”

While Michael Ignatieff is tut-tutting about Stephen Harper’s realistic targets of 20% reduction of GHGs by 2020, under (forgive the cliche) thirteen years of Liberal rule, how did Canada do on the GHG file? According to the Fossil of the Day, Canada “won” 89 awards, beating out the Saudis with 88.

FLASHBACK: How does the media cover Canada’s environmental record (Conservative vs. Liberal)?

UPDATE: Michael Ignatieff agrees!

Receiving the “fossil” award should be seen as an honour. Imho it's like receiving the “traitor” award from Aryan Nations.

  2. Durward Says:

ADD IFFY'S NAME TO THE CLASS ACTION SUITS.
PS. 20% is not reasonable, would you spend 20% of your savings to buy nothing?
Fighting imaginary dragons is just plain Stupid.
If Harper signs anything at Copenhagen the Cons are done as it will not matter who sits in Ottawa the UN will be running the country and our lives, those they let live anyway.
The jig is up sign it and pay the price and a large price it will be.
We don't take kindly to treason.

  3. Bec Says:

The 'fossil award' is nothing more than intimidation through humiliation.
Well, Canadians should be neither and should wear the award as a badge of honor as the current environmental movement has been radicalized to a bullying extreme.

Those folks that sit on 'that' side of the fence, must take their own inventory and rationalize their own consumption and lifestyle. Are they really prepared to make the economic sacrifices that this country is being asked to make?
My guess is that very few self described environmentalist have any idea the consequences of their support of this frightening 'new religion'.
Another thing I really want answered is why are all the very high profile supporters, filthy rich?

  4. wilson Says:

Hot off the wire Durward, no UN:

''Developing countries react furiously to leaked draft agreement that would hand more power to rich nations,
    sideline the UN's negotiating role
    and abandon the Kyoto protocol''

  5. Stephen Taylor Says:

I don't know. Where IS that graphic? Should we just take your word for it?

  6. David Says:

Interesting. But what do you expect from the climate crisis crowd? Honesty?

    These people are bloody fools.

  7. Jen Says:

Well, what do we have here. My oh my, Tom Clark, FIFE and all you dimtwits in the liberal land of media , look what is unleashed. No, I mean, uncovered. SUZUKI, where are you?-your friends , the liberals, have 89. 8 and 9=89.

Lizzy May, who stood by the liberals stood by —–owners to-89 fossil awards – you must be estatic.

I wonder if the OMNI NETWORK has this to tell the public in three or four different languages.

  8. Canadiansense Says:

Sweet, did you make that with power point?

  9. Canadiansense Says:

ST, does not delete or censor on his blog. He encourages honest debate and does not denigrate other posters. You must have him confuse with other blogging sites.

  10. Canadiansense Says:

Will they friends of the Libs report that gem or bury that gem?

  11. Stephen Taylor Says:

Please know that Clark and Fife are hardly dim witted…

I can't speak for the abilities of others in the MSM, but these guys are quite capable.

Funny take on Green Acres intro with Green Fakers starring Gore. Should we have been shorting his green stocks?

  13. Steve V Says:

    Posted on my blog. Enjoy.

You really shouldn't point to an award that shows you HAVE NO PEER.

  14. Stephen Taylor Says:

your graph suggests Stephen Harper has won 18 awards.

  15. wilson Says:

Oh, but Steve V deletes and censors, all the time.

Cons 18 in 4 years, Libs 89 in 6 years………Liberals win something, finally!

  16. Stephen Taylor Says:

    More than 18 actually.

Question is… Now that these awards are getting press, are they handing out more?

  17. batb Says:

Stephen, Fife and Clark may be capable but they're biased as He** and so predictable as to be b-o-r-i-n-g and not at all on the cutting edge. They seem to be capable mouthpieces for the LPC and to have a visceral dislike for the CPC and its capable leader, Prime Minister Stephen Harper. On second thought, I'm not sure that makes them 'capable” newsmen/journalists.

I LOVE the Three Amigos graphic for the Lib$, who did next to nothing towards implementing the Kyoto Protocol WHEN THEY HAD A MAJORITY GOVERNMENT. They were the ones, for crying out loud, who signed the deal under their guru, Mo Strong, but then did zilch of note to lower Canada's carbon emissions, knowing that if they did, it would have a devastating effect on Canadian businesses and households.

Now they're holding PMSH's feet to the fire because he's not implemented the Kyoto Accord. What utter goons they are. 'Double standard all the way, with their media cheerleaders happy to aid and abet the charade that the Liberal$, somehow, are Green all the way, whereas the CPC are shirkers.

    What a crock.

And, what's with the finger-wagging in the Opposition? Iggy

  18. Canadiansense Says:

    Wilson,

Yes, some bloggers take things very personal. Given the past 12 months it is understandable how some people can be very sensitive.

  19. Bec Says:

Does Steve V drive, buy gas, eat, vacation, fly, heat a home, turn on a light, watch TV,computer, cellphone……..?
Steve V, should wear his fossil, proudly or buy a horse and carriage and start construction of his mud hut….oh MAN…..he'll need carbon emission credits, for that wood fire.

Sorry Steve V but you need to understand your position and why but especially what you are REALLY willing to give up in order to continue with you smugness.

  20. m123T Says:

Hey, the leaked document say to abolish Kyoto. Did the liberals foresee this and that is why they didn't do anything and took so many Fossil Awards. Remember the media outrage when Rona got one.

  21. Bec Says:

That would be an initiative set up by the countries that never supported Kyoto. The US, back to Clinton and including Obama, DID NOT support Kyoto.
Of course the other non signators would be included in that list.
Where is the Canadian, Obama worshipping media now? Just askin'……

    yoo hoo….where are you?

  22. Steve V Says:

Yes, like you all bent out of shape because little ole Lib blog won't let you spew all day long. I could care less about you CS, you're the one with the obsession. I don't even read it, so let that be testament to how “personal” I take it. Your delusions no know bounds.

    You and wilson should marry.

I'd call you a “blogger” too, because techincally you are, except nobody reads it, so…. Great place for a nap though.

  23. Stephen Taylor Says:

Hey Steve V, keep to topic matter please

  24. wilson Says:

    'You and wilson should marry.'
    Gawd, how old are you?

  25. wilson Says:

Al Gore did not support Kyoto either.

  26. Suzanne Says:

“Do you think it is easy to make priorities”? Stephan Dion

    Priceless.

  27. Liz J Says:

Clark and Fife are quite capable at spinning and weaving but they're not so good at hiding their bias.
It's not the story, it's how it's spun and presented. It doesn't suit their agenda to talk about the Liberal's poor record when they're out to slam the Conservatives at every opportunity.

It's like the big fuss the in media through reports by David Akin et al about PM Harper being rebuked by the Chinese due to a comment made by Premier Wen Jaibao. It was spun out to do exactly what they wanted it to mean instead of what it actually meant thereby insulting the Chinese Prime Minister as well, implying he was rude to a visiting Prime Minister. It became the lead off in media reporting on all the good things accomplished on that trip by our PM so we know they nitpicked to serve their agenda. The Liberals are very jealous of PM Harper's visit to China, they think they have a leg up there with Chretien's connections, Mo Strong et al. Their leader was all set to go there, steal the march on Mr Harper, what caused him to cancel, concern for his carbon footprint?

All we can do is call them on such tactics, let them know we're onto them and watching them.

  28. Tricky_Dick Says:

how old is he – have you read his silly little blog?

  29. simon Says:

    Ahhh..the hubris of Steve V

Typical of 'Progresives'…assume to be in the know and proceed with the ankle biting.

All they really want is to be loved and accepted…the problem with these 'Holier Than Thou Maoists' is they want you to climb on their trainwreck and hold their hand on the way down.
    …with them leading of course!

  30. Stephen Taylor Says:

“If you followed the climate summit meetings in The Hague last fall, for example, you may have noticed that non-governmental organizations gave Canada more “Fossil of the Day” awards than any other country for attempting to weaken the Kyoto Protocol on greenhouse gas emissions.”

Who said that Mr. Speaker? It was David Suzuki in reference to the Liberal Party's performance in The Hague at climate summit meetings in the year 2000. Suzuki wrote this in the Globe and Mail on March 22, 2001

  31. Omanator Says:

When ever I hear about climate change and Kyoto I feel ill.
Mr. Suzuki told us in a show from National Geographic in 2000 that by the year 2010 the sea level would have risen by 1m. Well, we are 3 weeks from 2010 but the sea level had risen less than 6 inches. To me the Whole Kyoto is the greated world wide swindle ever perpetrated. How can any one in his right mind claim that China or Russia are underdeveloped nations and deserve money unter Kyoto. That the people in those countries are starving is the fault of their Government and has nothing to do with being underdeveloped. Nations that put people on the moon and shoot satelits out of the sky are not underdeveloped. I don't mind given money to some of the really poor African Countries, but not under Kyoto. Considering that Mo Strong had something to do with Kyoto is just another point.

  32. Omanator Says:

Al Gore in my book is the greates Snake Oil Salesman the world has ever known. He is in no way qualified to establish any data concerning global warming. All his figures come from the crowd in London and they have been discredited.

    Climategate and the Hamster Effect

Witnessing the spectacle of climate warmists scampering hither and thither in the face of predatory evidence that they and their pet theories may be doomed, I’m put in mind of the behavior of hamsters who suddenly find themselves trapped in a cage with a hungry snake. The ensuing drama is instructive.

Reverend Al is already dissing the emails. He says they were “private emails” and it was ten years ago.
Looks like old Al is on the defensive.

The big story out of “Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen” may well be all about free sex. Not sure that would be a legitimate way to increase carbon footprints, traveling by jets, private jets, limos etc to achieve nothing on the increasingly controversial and unsettled GW theory.

  36. Suzanne Says:

Liz, the most recent email was on November 12, 2009. Hardly 10 years ago.

see: “Al Gore can’t tell time – thinks most recent Climategate email is more than 10 years old”

  37. Suzanne Says:

Climategate reaches the British House of Lords

There is the issue of the science, which I had previously taken as given; but many people’s faith is being tested. We are often told that the science is settled. I suppose that is what the Inquisition said to Galileo. If so, why are we spending millions of pounds on research? The science is far from settled. – Lord Turnbull Dec 8th 2009

I hate to be the one to point this out to you but you are actually spewing. So, why would you diss CS for spewing when you're doing the exact, same thing?

  40. Liz J Says:

Poor Mikey, he's trying to win favor with Quebecers who have their knickers in a knot over the failure of Kyoto under which they stood to exact big bucks in carbon credits. He'll be spouting off about environMENTAL issues every time he crosses the Ottawa River.
