OTTAWA – An unfortunate blunder by the Prime Minister's Office has residents of Nunavut alternately chuckling and cringing.

A news release sent out Monday outlined Prime Minister Stephen Harper's itinerary as he began a five-day tour of the North.

The release repeatedly spelled the capital of Nunavut as Iqualuit – rather than Iqaluit.

The extra `u' makes a world of difference in the Inuktitut language.

Iqaluit, properly spelled, means `many fish.'

Spelled with an extra `u,' the Nunavut language commissioner's office says the word translates as a derogatory reference to `people with unwiped bums.'

Sorry for being off topic , but what's left, the NDP love-in is over, nothing left but dealing with the rolling insults by the resident troll.

I feel, though, that I must make a few nit-picky corrections. First off, I was the delegate that 'moved to discuss aid on a case-by-case bilateral basis.' It wasn't quite as dramatic as you described, as some of us simply wanted to outline a strategy rather than passing rhetoric. And, may I add, the resolution passed unanimously when a list of improvised African nations were tagged onto the resolution.

Secondly, those 'delegates' who talked in favour of the oil pipeline were union plants who would have a vested interest in seeing such a thing built. I was one who stood at the 'con' mic to lash out against such an insane proposal (though, in the end, I allowed other to go ahead. One was Gary Doer's trade minister.) It ended up being soundly defeated, with only around 20 people supporting it.

You won't get there. I come from the Stephen Harpo school of attack and don't need nicities since our PM deosn't bother with them either. Just trying to communicate on a level that reformatorts seem to support. Obviously liberals are not permitted to speak that way since nastiness appears to be IP of the reformatorts.
