This week, Conservatives fought back

Good week for Conservatives, don’t you think? I hear that Brian Mulroney did pretty well too!

Q: Why is Michael Ignatieff still in Canada?

A: Because Ruby Dhalla’s holding his passport.

*rimshot*

Q: Why is Michael Ignatieff still in Canada?

A: He likes being a stowaway at Stowaway ... er, I mean, Stornoway, in tony Rockliffe Park.

Why has webster's changed the spelling of hypocrite to Harpercrite?
  • east of eden
Webster's hasn't done this so your point is moot. Try to stay on topic, dear lady.
  • terry1
I ws just trying to stay on topic since it appeared to be joke time..............I'm not a she by the way which further shows your tory narrow mindedness

    Lets see how long your so called good week lasts;
    http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/635364

If you think highlights of Mulroney taking cash from a scumbag while still in office is a good week for Tories I can't wait for the bad ones.

    Or maybe this column:
    http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Tories+looking...

Frankly, this kind of politics demeans democracy, insults the voters and further undermines their desire to participate in the process and says far more about those who embrace such a campaign of divisive belittlement than it does about the targets of the advertising.

If you ask me, these attack ads are what's un-Canadian, not Ignatieff's career as a world-class intellectual.

    or this comment from the same column;
But according to the Conservatives, Ignatieff is simply not up to Canadian standards because he succumbed to the temptations of a teaching career at some of the world's most illustrious universities and now has the temerity to think he's got the jelly to contend for the prime minister's job.

    or this:
Apparently Wayne Gretzky doesn't rate as less Canadian for marrying an American and moving to Arizona to coach a hockey franchise. Michael J. Fox is not less Canadian for pursuing a successful Hollywood career as an actor.

    Or maybe this will help you better understand;
    http://www.torontosun.com/comment/editorial/200...

That said, the latest ads from Harper & Co., directed at Ignatieff, take our politics to a new low. They are snide, sarcastic and juvenile in tone and concept. If there is justice in politics they should backfire.

Is Iggy a patrician intellectual from a storied line of Canadian eggheads and Russian nobility? Yup.

Did he live and work outside of Canada for more than 30 years? Yup.

Does he speak French with a "Parisian" accent? Er ... maybe. The French might disagree.

Whatever. These ads are schoolyard tripe -- insular, provincial, anti-intellectual. Is this the best that Harper and the finest conservative minds in the land can do?"

    or this one from Edmonton:
    http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/Tories+shou...
"Instead of fixing a negative, disparaging storyline to the new Liberal leader, the Tories may succeed only in reinforcing a damaging narrative about themselves -- as angry, slightly mean-spirited, defensive folks who believe the way to voters' hearts is to call other people names."

Or this one from Guelph, Ontario
    http://news.guelphmercury.com/Opinions/article/...
Defending the advertisement, Pierre Poilievre, the parliamentary secretary to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, said, "He called Britain his adopted country and he called America his home. That doesn't make him a bad person but it's open for debate."

But if you've seen the commercial, you know that Poilievre is peddling a load of bull. You don't have to be a Liberal -- I'm not -- to be offended by these attack advertisements.

Some of those are even Tory newspapers

Keep up the narrative. I love watching bigots soak in their own glory

B UT TODAY ALL YOU QUOTED ARE LIBERAL PROPAGANDA SHEETS. NOTHING GROWING IN YOUR OWN
BACK YARD. BESIDES THERE IS ANY TORY MEDIA IN CANADA.
tHE IDEA BY YOUR PARTY THAT STEVEN HARPER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE AMOUNT OF UNEMPLOYMENT AND THE DOWN TURN OF OUR ECONOMY IS SO PREPOSTEROUS, I HAVE NO WORDS FOR IT.
IF THE LIBERALS HAD BEEN IN POWER THE GOVERNMENT WOULD BE BANKRUPT
  • terry1
omanator, please put me back on ignore so I won't have to read the dumb stuff you put forth as dialogue.
  • Keep on topic

The Lieberals and their MSM enablers sure have their knickers in a knot.

Canadians will not be told what to think by that lot.

Gomery called the LPoC criminally organized and he was right.

When will the LPoC pay back the missing $40 million from Adscam?
  • Liz J
Have to agree Mulroney did well.

We have to agree he showed respect for those questioning him, a far cry from the outrageous disrespect Chretien and his briefcase of golf balls showed Judge Gomery at the Adscam Inquiry.
  • terry1
Mulroney did well? How do you figure that taking cash from a known sleezeball is doing well. He showed respect because he's terrified of going to jail when all the truth comes out. As pathetic as this affair is I believe that Harper has thrown a former PM to the dogs which shows his willingness to sacrifice anyone and anything for the good of his own power trip. He will pay the price for that arrogance.
  • Raphael
That's a very funny joke. Did you make it up?
  • Paul Rutledge
Does anyone know the breakdown of the memberships that were collected? A friend of mine who works at the PC party headquarters told me Hudak brought in over 20, 000 memberships. She also told me that Randy Hillier's campaign manager brought all his memberships on one usb stick. Couldn't be anymore than a thousand on that. Does anyone have the final results? Does this mean Tim wins the race on the first ballot?
  • Cat
Yes, a fabulous week for Harper AND Canada. Stephen, it's your ability to just tell it like it is, very clearly and
without that tabloid gossip-like stuff characteristic of some other blogs that keeps your blog no.1 on my list of
    daily check-ins.

This summary is an example! Neat!

"Fought back"? Against a little GritGirl in her basement?

Goliath, meet GritGirl. GritGirl, meet Goliath.

Watch out for the little slingshot, Stephen.
  • east of eden
What the heck is all that about? Ted, your comments are becoming more and more beyond the pale.
  • Lorraine
Q: Why is Michael Ignatieff in Canada?

A: He needed a job that pays a pension so he can afford to retire to the family home in Florence, Italy.
  • Liz J
Ignatieff may as well admit he would not be here if he hadn't been lured by the Liberals with a promise of leadership.

The way things transpired it took a bit longer than the head honchos had planned, the rank and file maneuverings at the first leadership convention chose Dion . If either Ignatieff or Rae could have thrown their support to one or the other, the Liberals may have been in an entirely different situation, alas, they chose the dog eat dog approach, personal ambition trumped all.

The honchos couldn't risk that happening again. Down with the democratic process, down with all other candidates standing, hoist their chosen one to the top and presto, we have to get to know who the H*ll he is and what he stands for. So far, so fuzzy and cutting through the Liberal adoring media isn't any help.
  • terry1
liz J, if there as ever a prty that defied democracy it is yours. Harper plays democracy like a fiddle. He uses democracy only as a word it suits him and then he runs things under the cover of his office. remember the word porogue.

The liberal party did not violate their party rules whatsoever in electing Iggy. Your fantasies are direct from disney world.
  • Liz J
Any chance that keyboarding cat could be MIMI ?

Miss Ruby is blowing up bridges all around her, she's passing the buck to her brother and insinuating the nannies are lying, so much for her caring a damn about the vulnerable women which has been her shtick.

Things are not looking good for the Bollywood actress.
  • Soccermom
I guess it's not over till the Keyboard Cat plays, is that it??

Well then, if that's the case, Ruby is clearly done.
  • Soccermom
Very cute! Too bad the cat has to share a video with Ruby, though.
