Unfortunately, men don't abuse and murder prostituted women because prostitution is illegal. Legalizing it will only give legitimacy to the belief that men should have unfettered access to women's bodies; it has never been shown that legalization makes the women involved safer.
That said, change to the status quo must be made, and Canada would do well to examine the Swedish model, which decriminalizes the women and enforces penalties against the men, usually a jail term or stiff fine. It has worked to great success in Sweden, reducing prostitution by a significant amount while also providing avenues for women to escape the Hobbesian life of prostitution.

e of e…More narrow minded reading of what people say and write. I said I agreed with them getting help and that help can be one of getting them out of the trade. I also said prostitution is not going away.

Wow, did you ever miss the point. Prostitution is one of those professions which women do not enter by choice. I do believe in legalized prostitution simply because it is one of the oldest professions and because it will provide a safe working environment for these women. However, for the majority who enter prostitution out of desperation, I would prefer to see their situations changed so that they can escape this horrible life.

I have the impression, from your comment, that you believe that these women should not be helped out of this profession. How cruel and mean is that?

Good luck. As long as there are men with penises there will be prostitution and the government is doing the right thing in the way they are helping them. In fact if prostitution was legalized the pimps would probably no longer exist. Imagine the regressive reformers trying to sell that in their church basements.

Bullseye – This is so true about the Media whose ultimate goal is to prop up the Libs, who are on a train to nowhere. The queen of gossip (Jane) and we all know the rest of the usual suspects whom I won't bother to mention put on their usual unprofessional performance. QP on Sunday was a sham which is customary and hopefully most of the newspapers who are closing will also comprise an equal amount of fodder. If they are undecided about who to give the heave-ho, I would gladly recommend some names – free of charge.
It's not like they are “biased” or anything, however, the consistent whining is worse than a 747's engines at full power.

But – would it not be better to get these women out of this trade? If they are vulnerable, then they should be given the opportunity to get out of the business and into something less dangerous.

Blues Clair – the CPC government does a lot to help the vulnerable but the MSM just doesn't report it because they're too busy dissing the PM.
