Four years of Blogging Tories

Yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of the founding of Blogging Tories, Canada’s original political blogroll and aggregator.

I started blogging about a year before the founding of Blogging Tories shortly after the Conservative Party was founded. During the first year of this blog, I found that there was an emerging community of like-minded political junkies writing about right-of-centre politics. On December 28th, 2004 Craig Smith and I launched Blogging Tories and started hunting for other Canadian conservative bloggers to add to our community.

Since its launch with about five blogs on the blogroll, Blogging Tories has grown to over 300 blogs. I started archiving Blogging Tories blog posts on January 31st of this year. Since we started counting them 11 months ago, 25,390 blog posts have been written by Blogging Tories. On our forums, 53,123 posts have been made by our members on 3,782 topics.

Soon, I’ll be launching a new version of Blogging Tories with some added features. These will allow added layers of blog and social media integration. More details on this exciting new version will be coming soon. I expect to launch the new site early in the new year.

Thank you to our bloggers and to those that read and comment on our blogs. We’ve become the foundation of online conservative movement in Canada and we’ll continue to lead and innovate through 2009 and for years to come.

Happy New Year!

You are above the curve, Stephen. Congratulations!

Thank goodness, we have intelligent, thoughtful people like you, inspiring Conservative Canadians.

Happy New Year to you and all those special, to you.

I want to thank you and Craig for everything you have done! It is because of you and Craig that C/conservative voices are being heard and listened to in greater numbers. Instead of 300 individual bloggers shouting out into the wilderness, we have one place that right minded people can go to read and comment.

    Awesome job both of you!

  • Pat

I'll join the chorus of those folks saying thanks for putting the Blogging Tories on line. It IS a good thing that Conservative minded Canadians have a place to voice their thoughts, report on news and in general become informed and help by informing.

    Good on you guys.

Happy and Prosperous New Year to all.

    Pat

BT is a daily destination for me and I depend on it, thanks for this good work.

Congratulations to you, Stephen, and to Blogging Tories on its anniversary. Long may both you and BT prosper.

And Happy New Year to all who visit here!

Congratulations and thanks for everything Stephen!

  • conservative, not Tory

Unfortunately, you have very much become a forum for faux conservatives, from which they may bash Steven Harper relentlessly. Oh how I wish there was a Conservative blog roll that actually supported the Conservative Party, instead, all I get is 'Tory' crapola.

  • http://www.stephentaylor.ca Stephen Taylor

Sometimes we get accused of being an echo chamber and sometimes this. For the record Blogging Tories is a 'c'onservative site (movement) not a 'C'onservative site (party). That being said, virtually all of the people on the blogroll support Stephen Harper as Prime Minister.

Always check “Blogging Tories” every day…. without it – where would we get our unbias information….. we can't expect anything from the media – that is not tainted with a liberal flavour. Thanks to all the bloggers on the “Blogging Tories” for information we as Tories enjoy reading….

  • batb

'not sure what Conservative, not Tory is talking about.

I'm extremely grateful to Blogging Tories for the articulate and informative alternative it is to the Canadian MSM; Stephen, you're responsible for maintaining the sanity of a great many of us!

Here's to more Rallies for Canada–and thanks for them too! I know you'll do everything you can to reveal Ignatieff as he really is: a Liberal, elitist, smirking, smug, sanctimonious, professorial pretender to the throne.

A very prosperous New Year to you, Stephen, and to all of your readers!

Congrats Stephen – BT is quite an accomplishment. I can't wait to see the new version of the site!

You have come a long way and a circle of us appreciate your delving and probing for the “facts”. A lot of time is consumed on the mainframe researching and verifying subject stories and journalist writings. Not always the truth, consequently, before blogging, we must be “perfecto” before pressing the send key as no one appreciates kickbacks from others concerning discrepancies.
Anyway, you/we endeavor to do our very best with what we blog. It is unfortunate that all thread writers occasionally neglect the facts which occasionally get in the way of rumors, and I am talking about professional journalists, television commentators or others thereof. We all know who they are, or at least have the moxy and strong instinct to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Anyway, in closing, I appreciate and acknowledge your excellent efforts and wish you well in the New Year. Optimistically, Canadians can appreciate just what they have, albeit, the difficulties they and the planet as a whole is at this point passing through.
    Regards,
    Ronald.

BT is the first place I go to every morning, to get up to date conservative information. Thanks to you Stephen and Craig for a wonderful alternative to the MSM.
All the best in the New Year!

Congratulations on your fourth anniversary, can't wait to see the new website!
And thanks to all the bloggers who provide an alternative to the biased information fed us through television and newspaper media.

Thank you Stephen and Craig for Blogging Tories. Congratulations on your 4 year anniversary.

Happy Anniversary, Stephen and Craig. Thanks to both of you for this evolving forum for conservative discussion.

Stephen, this year was highlighted by the Rally for Canada as batb mentioned. Thanks so much for organizing that event. It was a memorable day – a day when so many Canadians across this country stood up for democracy and told the coalition that the last election meant something. It could not simply be thrown down the memory hole.

If the coalition wants to form the government, let them do it the old-fashioned way – by taking it to the people in an election.

  • Observant

Canadian conservatives will be threatened with a new evil that may force out the Harper Conservative government — the Coalition Junta, headed by the “we Americans” Ignatieff, the leftist Layton and the separatist Duceppe … and Ignatieff who within 4 years of returning to Canada can grasp the prime ministership without an election. I fear the Liberal-appointed GG will accede to the demands of the Coalition Junta after they vote no confidence in the upcoming January Budget. The Harper government will fall and we sill see this Coalition Junta seizing power and holding on to that power.

I do not trust the GG. I do not trust this 'Ignatieff' suddenly appearing from the USA and poised to become prime minister. I fear we may be heading towards a “political” civil conflict that will destroy Canada as we know it. Evil forces between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal are assembling and their influence and power will soon reveal itself. Canada may soon lose it's democratic existence very very soon.

Is it just me, or does the Blogging Tories blogroll (as it appears on BT sites) not work anymore? It used to refresh with the most latest blog-comment appearing on top.

    Hi Stephen,
For some reason, when I click on what Fred (GayandRight) hasposted on Blogging Tories, I get a list of blog names and never what it is that you’ve posted. I can not access his, Dr. Roy’s and some other bloggers. I get a list that starts with Tundra Tabloids and ends with Brass Balls Tabloid. Not a major thing but annoying, as Fred comes up with some good stuff.

    Happy New Year,
    Pat Patrick
    Powell River, BC.

    Regards,

Yes, congratulations and Happy New Year. You are doing a fine job. However, yesterday and today, I can’t go beyond page 1 on Blogging Tories. Is there a reason for that? Bettie

Belated anniversary greetings. Just trying out some of the new site features this morning and everything looks great. Facebook login worked without a hitch. Tried the hide/unhide. Friends list works fine. You continue to set the bar for others to follow. BZ!

Congrats, Stephen, on all your success thus far, and I wish you and all the people at BT the very best in 2009 and onward. Let's keep Canada moving forward, one conservative step at a time.

How do I log into the Blogging Tories site now?

The log in thing seems to have disappeared at the top of the page.
